Out of season?

S. gigantea are typically out of stock. In other words, you shouldn't expect to ever see them in stock, and when you find one, you should strongly consider buying it if it's in decent shape. I don't remember the season, but there is a time of the year when I do see more.

It's a matter of conditions where they are typically collected, so like if it's monsoon season or something...

Check LFS to see if anyone can find one for you, since they are considered one of the more difficult to keep, and many LFS are clueless about bacterial infections or cipro treatment, as are many hobbiests, many LFS just do not keep them in stock as they feel it's nearly impossible to keep them long

Expect any gig newly shipped to be in need of cipro treatment, and have it at the ready, otherwise it's usually too late, and I'd guess at least 80% of newly shipped mags or gigs will need cipro immediately upon arrival.

I wouldn't say they're out of season. In fact, id say jusy the opposite. I've been seeing them pretty frequently past few weeks at lfs's here. Specifically purple ones for some reason!

Yea, I've seen quite a few available over the past month or so. Seller on eBay has had a few (Coralust). Very expensive but his seem healthy. My LFS got a nice one recently too.
