out the hole

i want to catch my mantis and put him in a small cup/jar so i can photo him. the problem is, he stays in his hole all the time, with just his eyes sticking out. is there any way i can coax him out to catch him? ive tried using food as bait, but he just sat there staring at it for over an hour.

its ok, i eventually got it by removing the rock, and squirting fresh water into the hole, it eventually came out and plopped into a dish of tankwater.
