Outgrow?

How do you tell if your mantis has outgrown his abode?

2.
Wondering how long it would take a 1.5" juvenile peacock to outgrow a 12 gallon tank, 6months? 12months? 24 months?

If it's 1.5" it may well not be a peacock. They come out of the plankton at right about this size. The smallest I've seen is perhaps 2.5". Please verify with pics.

1) Water quality becomes compromised (cannot control ammonia/nitrite/nitrate/phosphate), change in behavior (aggression, lethargy), etc.

2) I'm sure Dr. Roy will have some input on this but I would expect perhaps a year?

I wouldn't expect it to grow more than 1" a year at the most, & you could probly keep it in a 10 gallon without any real detriment to the mantis or water quality until about 3".

I've had my peacock in a 10 gallon for almost 2 months now. I got him when he was 1 3/4" long from Stomatopod.com He's probably pushing 2.5" now. I don't think I would worry untill 3" which will probably be around a year for you maybe a little more.

Also, that mantis is going to be TINY. It's nothing against stomatopod.com but pull out some measuring tape and look at the length in real life. Pictures make them look big haha. Mine caught me by surprise but I'm GLAD I got a little guy, I get to see him grow up!

Looks like it, don't it? I doubt it though-they are pretty good at noting damage to specimens (and then they lower the price )

If you look closely, you can see at least two of the left feet in the bottom photo. One leg is over the 9/16" line and the other is coming out from under the rostral plate and extends under the left antennal scale.

Correction... that leg is extending from below the carapace, not the rostral plate... but since the pic is gone, I'm assuming you got him Feclar?

I am still concerned that he will outgrow the 12g Aquapod fast
Going to have to figure something out before then.

I rehosted the pic, stomatopod.com has something built in to protect their images is why it does not always showup.

Sorry for the loss. Feel free to choose another from the list or wait for two more upcoming shipments. We are hobbyist's every bit as much as the next and hate to lose any mantis. As far as small specimen shipping ; I have not seen much indication of the smaller specimens shipping poorer than the larger.

Glad I decided to go with them

Waiting on their future shipments to see if they get another small peacock

Left him in the bag in the water for about 2 hours, no movement
Then put him in the tank for another hour, no movement
