Outlet adapter for generator power

I have a GFI outlet that has two power strips plugged in to it for my aquarium power.

I was thinking of unplugging them from the wall, plug them in to a 3 outlet adapter, then plug back in to the outlet. I wanted to do this in case I ever needed to use my generator when there is a power outage. My generator is large enough to keep every thing running on the aquarium circuit. I would run an extension cord from the generator, to the tank, where i would then plug it in to the outlet adapter that would have both aquarium power strips plugged in to it.

Does anyone know if I would cause any harm by using this power adapter?

It would be okay, but I would use a good quality power strip with a built in surge protector, you have too much money in equipment not to protect it.

When I use my generator(portable kind), I use an extension cord and surge protected power strip. Then plug my 3 EB8's into the power strip, and anything else I want the genny to run. When running a generator the more surge protection you have the better.

Is it possible to get a surge from a generator?

I'm totally not sure, but I've had surge protectors trip when on the generator. Specially when you go from a big draw to light draw. I don't think its an issue with a big whole house generators as it can be with smaller portable ones.
