Picked this up at my LFS today. Wasn't really looking for a feather duster, but when I saw it I HAD to have it.

It really is lime green and maroon. Has anyone ever seen one of this coloration? Name? Origin?

Thanks

It's very pretty. Certainly a Sabellid polychaete. I don't know of a good key for this family. Did it come on live rock?

Most sabellids & serpulids cannot be identified from photographs even if they are big & pretty! :) All the good keys rely on morphological characters with heavy emphasis on details of the setae (bristles) and crown. If I was identifying a specimen I would have to remove setae from different parts of the body and perhaps make cross-sections of parts of the crown, then put these on slides and examine them under a microscope.

It came attached to the rock that it is attached to. It may not be evident from the pic, but it is attached.

I have seen some of those come into my LFS that were generally labelled hawaiian feather duster if it helps to have a generic name?

That's not a hawaiian feather duster. These guys have started showing up at LFSs in the past year or so. Not sure where they come from, but they are usually around $40. I picked one up for $15 about a year ago but lost it when I switched tanks. They really are beautiful!
