Over 260+ items identified - by picture!

Very hard to get a shot: It's about the size of a dime - maybe a tad smaller.

Round - with an opening and "mouth" couple small feelers come out. Seems to follow itself in circles VERY VERY slowly...

Definitely vermetid. Eventually there will be a tube facing upward for it to spew out a web to catch particulates upon.

Much bigger than the standard ones and has ridges. Different species perhaps... Pretty boring hitchiker though :)

What is this??????????

What is this??????????

I bought some lalo live rock from dr foster. When I broke it to make smaller pieces I found this guy in there. Initially there was about 3-4 inches showing. This picture shows about one inch still poking out. It looked like an earthworm where the skin was transparent and I could see what looked like veins inside. The tip in the picture kind of looks like a raspberry. I have not been able to find any pictures anywhere to identify it. Anyone have an idea?

I am about two weeks into the curing process for these rocks. I have a tank with fish set up already and am curing the rock in a seperate tub. If this thing is good should I try and recover it and add it to my already cycled tank to help it survive or just leave it be?

It may be a Peanut Worm. Does it retract within itself like a turtleneck? If it is one, it is reef-safe, and interesting to observe at night as long as you don't a shine a flashlight directly upon it. If you do, it will retract out of sight very quickly.

Just wanted to say that I'm still fairly new to the hobby and that "database" is quite helpfull. I'm looking for something more geared towards predators, but this still helps...thx.

I think that is a good idea. Which is why I started adding them to each category. If you enter the SPS section, scroll down to the predators. I did the same for each subset, and will be updating it with more information as time permits.

hey Marc, i love your site.. so informative. thanks for doing that.

I'm a newbie to the hobby, hence, this forum. I recently set up a 55 gal moderate reef tank (60lbs of rock). Its been up and running with rocks for 2 days now when I noticed 2 anemones embedded in one of the rocks. Here are pictures.

From your site, I'm assuming they're aiptaisias but from what i can see, its hard to tell as they're still very small at about half an inch in diameter.

can you or someone please confirm so i can get rid of it if it is. and if it is, what's the best way of discarding it? My tank is still very new so I can easily take the rock out.

Thanks in advance.

They look like aiptasia to me as well. In this very forum, there is a thread pinned to the top with all you need to know about aiptasia and their removal/destruction.

thanks, Marc! I have asked the LFS if I could exchange the rock and because it is only 2 days old they said sure. I will be doing that today.

This forum rocks!

ok, so I traded the rock and proceeded on buying some more (I really gotta stop).. while cleaning the new rocks, i saw this crab:

looks like the Black Fingered Mud crab from your site, which is not reef safe, but I'm not entirely sure. can you please confirm? Thanks again!

It is a bit tough to see it, but the claws look darker and it may not be a good guy to keep in your main tank. I wouldn't trust it in my tank.

dous - still looks like an unfriendly critter. I'd not recommend keeping that in your tank. It may be in the xanthid family.

Romain - do you have that image in 640 x 480 or larger?
