Over sized hermits?

Anybody ever use these?

Yes...I have a few in my tanks I have some huge ones, small fist sized, they learn to come out at night, but are also quite aggresive and are able to defend themselves... most of the time, when they do venture out during the day...

Yea I have a fist sized one and like humaguy said its very aggresive. Im worried its going to get bigger. It went from golfball size to fist size in about 6 months.

yep i have them in my mantis tank. fortunatly for me by the time they get as big as a fist they are "taken care of". i do have one that for some weird reason he doe not attack and this one is 3/4 of my fist. i have not seen the large crab attack anything other than snails and other hermits.

Do you all put new shells in the tank for the crabs to move into? Forgive my lack of knowledge but I am pretty sure the crabs just move into old snail shells.

I am thinking of buying a few dozen for my tank and while the trigger may get a few I am sure some can make it. I am just not sure I want to worry about shell upgrades

yes i add them. and they do move shells alot. it would be a good idea to add shells to the tank for them to change homes.

Sweet I might have to get one of these. The only thing I'm worried about is the clown trigger I'm getting as well but he's a juvi so I'll deal with that when the time comes. Do these larger crabs have names?

Dardanus megistos is the most common of these hermits. IME, they're very aggressive and destructive in most setups.

I'm only gonna have two fish. Anything that isn't a huge rock is epoxeied. That should keep him from doing too much damage no? I've learned the strength of a crab before. I'll never have them in a reef anymore just a pain in the a$$.
