Overflow box and beananimal overflow

I've been using the beananimal overflow for over a year and I love it. When I upgraded to the basement sump my flow through my sump is/can be much higher than it was when I had my the sump under the tank with my old Eheim 1262.

If I direct full flow to my display, I get a pretty awful splashing sound as the water crashes over the top of my overflow. I'd love to take advantage of the full flow, but I'd have trouble hearing my TV. Do I just need wider teeth in my acrylic overflow box? If so, how could I make any type of change to the overflow box in an existing system?

if im understanding things correctly, you need to raise the water level in the box, so as water flows over the weir it doesn't drop as far, thus it doesn't splash as much.

you should be able to do this by raising the open channel.

as I think about it... if you widen the gap between the teeth, that should allow water to flow into the box faster, which would lower the water level in your display, effectively reducing the distance the water falls which will quiet things too.

but I think the first option will be easier.

So far, it seems that raising the emergency drain with a piece of 1" pipe and closing the siphon enough that the emergency drain gets a trickle is the only way to do it. I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with that config, but I've certainly got a lot more flow through the display without much noise.

No practical way to raise the other drains (without drilling a new tank), since they face downward and are already very close to the bottom of the overflow box. I could always try to grind the street elbows down, but that only brings them up 1/4".

So this was cool. I went over to make an additional adjustment and noticed that my starry blenny was in the overflow box. He's been missing for about a week, and I don't know that I would have noticed him moving around without this much water in there.
