Overflow box losing siphon

Hi,

I just bought an overflow box from ebay and its continuously loosing its siphon after 2 days. I think its because of the bubbles that get in.

The box is a continuos siphon box wihout the tube.
Its very similar to this

Can someone suggest a way to stop this?

Take that tube that is attached to the top of your overflow and connect it to a powerhead. If it works, it should suck the bubbles out

Yes you need a pump to draw the air out of your overflow. A powerhead will work..

I use an aqualifter with no troubles.

Never a flood. Will draw air out after a power outage.

Does every overflow box have the same problem or jus this one? Like does the overflow box with the U tube?

Does this aqualifter has to continuously keep pumping out air?

The pump has to run 24/7 when its not removing air it is removing water back to your sump.

U-tubes do not have this prob.

I have both a new U-tube overflow which i don't use and i have a CPR. I choose to use the CPR.

I do not have any probs with it. Will prolly end up selling the U-tube.

My 150 gal setup will be R/R is the only way togo.

If the CPR requires a pump to maintian the siphon and if the U tube is simplar, why would you choose CPR? Just debating, dont take me wrong.

I like that the CPR overflow is tinted- less algae growth. It has a slim profile not as bulky. Its just preference.. You will have to decide for yourself

Lakeside - How long have you been using your CPR overflow? What is your maintenance routine? I've been using mine for only 4 months and I've already had one flood and one near miss. My problem occurred (I think) when my AquaLifter pump failed to siphon due to algae occluding the air line tubing.

Stick with a U Tube design if you want a reliable setup. Algae does grow in the CPR too, and clogs the air nipple which causes it to fail. In addition, the CPR can not be dissembled and is a royal PITA to clean out. A simple piece of plastic to shield the light from a U Tube will make the algae issue very slight. Cleaning a U Tube once in awhile is a very quick and simple operation.
