Overflow box suggestions

Im getting a 85g tank (20g sump), no holes for overflow on it so Im will need to get the hanging fixture.

The things is, I dont know what overflow to buy. What do you recommend me to use?

CPR CS100 Overflow Box (800 gph)
or
CPR CS102 Overflow Box (1200 gph) ( too much water for a 20g?)

Any other advice?

Cheers,

Carlos García

Thanks for the reply, but I have a dumb question. Does Eshopps and Lifereef Overflow are the same product or same manufacturer? I can get Eshopps from amazon, not Lifereef.

Eshopps is similar to Lifereef not sure of the same quality. The one I mentioned is about 120 bucks, you have to buy it from his site, he enjoys a cult following for his hand made products, one man show as they say.

I confused by this statement on the 5 line I thought this was for a 85 gallon tank not a 20 gallon tank?

Sorry, is for a 85g dp tank. Just was making sure if a 1200 gph overflow box could be too much for my 20g sump ( the 1 Im using for my 85g dp tank).

Another vote for LifeReef.
I run two, one on my frag tank and one on my mangrove tank and both function perfectly.
They always start right back up. No aqua lifter pump needed.

Thank you both of you for the replay!

Recently bought an entire tank system and it included an overflow box. Searching on internet looks like an Aqueon overflow box ( the bigger one) and ill try to see how it works when light goes off. I dont live in USA, so trying to buy a Lifereef is kind of difficult but ill try, especially in case something is wrong with the overflow I cant reclaim (takes more than 24 hours , so I dont match their reclaim period).

Looking at youtube videos and photos of Lifereef overflow boxes function, I came with the conclusion that the success of these boxes relay on the small diameter U-tube ( especially 1 inch diameter, gives you more rapid flow so u'll get less probability to get bubbles inside of it) and when light goes off, each side of the U-tube stay underwater so you won´t lose syphon, so ill try to recreate both things, hope it works tho... ( plus a matching return pump)

You got it right, the secret to Lifereef success. I have the 600 model the silencer is important but can be made as well. I found that having the correct pump helps out a lot.

No need to buy an overflow system, you can make one by yourself
look to this video, I am using one for my 55g tank with PVC 1 inch and works great

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65yVr7DiDls

for your tank you may need 1.5 inch or 2 inchs would be better!

for more question I can answer as I spent good time on the overflow subject

Thats a nice option!, I have some pvc left in my house so I'll try to make one. That kind of overflow can handle 600 or 700 gph return pump? Can you make another water intake pvc? ( using a T and then make 2 heads overflows), or you just need one?

In the video he mention you can paint the pvc that goes inside the dp tank so it can "camouflage" with your color background, but what paint is like free-toxin water resistant?

Sorry for that many question, but I'm looking for an overflow that gives me mental peace when I'm out of home.

And thank you all for the advices!

I use 1" and 2400 gph return pump , now may the pump is not performing to its max as the height is 100 cm
But I can be sure if you use more than 1" you can have very good overflow rate.
I don't recommend to use T design pvc, as the above comment is correct if you use seperated overflow would be better!
Any way with this design you don't need to initiate the overflow each time if the return pump stop working it will automatically overflow again if the pump works again
And I keep it always running during my work.
It's never down for 2 months so far :)
