Overflow height

Getting ready to install my glass hole overflow, how high to cut the hole, or how high to install the overflow from the top of the tank, I want the water in the tank not to be too low, can someone please give me some advice. thanks.

Normally just above the bottom of the teeth on the in-tank box is the water line. I would put that at the level of the plastic trim.

Half way up the teeth on the overflow is the normal water line. If it's a rimless tank, give yourself at least an inch.

I installed the 1500 model a few years ago on my 125g tank. Looks like I put the bottom of the teeth even with the bottom of the plastic trim. I have no complaints about its position.

I have installed a few of the glass holes overflows - pretty much as high up as you can is where you want the box to be. Even then I have had to add a piece of acrylic to the front of the box to raise the height a bit sometimes.

although i feel toothed overflows are not good for much of anything, this is the solution i would follow, that way if your water flow is low your tank water won't look low, and if it is a little high it will still be fine"¦unless the water flow is too high, then you see why toothed overflows are not so great...
