Overflow needed??

So do I need an overflow for a small sump/fuge/bucket thing.

My plan is shown in the attachment and the gravity fed siphon on the right will go about 2" tank. In case of a power outage the bucket would just fill with 2" of water and then the siphon would go dry...Do yall see any problems

That'll work but if water evaporates out as quickly as my tank you're going to be restarting that siphon an awful lot.

Unless you get an overflow, you'll have to re-start the siphon each time you turn the return pump off, or each time the power goes out and comes back on. If you are not around when the power goes off and comes back on, the sump will empty itself into the main tank and overflow it. I suggest drilling the tank.

Hmm could I drill the tank 2 inches below the water line...Im on a 250$ budget and an overflow would be massive compared to the small tank I have in mind (5g)
