Overflow Normal?

Is this normal for my overflow water level to go up and down. I maintain my tank as much as possible until I move my tank to my house hopefully within a few weeks. I am unable to attach the video of it but I am just curious. Thanks

It's not normal in my opinion. It's not necessarily hurting anything, but if it were mine, I would be looking for a solution. I can think of several things that could be causing that.

It's possible that it needs cleaning but air venting and volume thru the drain pipe are the first things I would look at.

The top of the drain pipe is a whole that is clear this also prevents the water from overflowing. How can I check the volume thru the drain pipe thx.

The hole that is clear may or may not let enough air escape from the drain lines, so that is something to consider. As far as knowing how much volume your trying to drain, the place to start is by getting a rough guesstimate. I would take note of what return pump that I was using and look at the mfg spec for the pump to see how many gph the pump was rated at. Then I would do a lil research to figure out what my drain pipes could handle. Then I would use the headloss calculator or a similiar tool available to get an idea of how much volume that was going thru my drain lines after headloss was taken into account. The idea is to make sure that your drain lines can handle the amount of water volume that you're trying to put through them.

Thanks for the help I had this setup for 5 years no issues. I will check it out thx. I made need to drill A bigger hole. When I bought the pump I know it was able to handle the volume. I will check again.
