Overflowing Skimmer???

Last week, I converted my 30g to a 55g and added new rocks with some pretty nasty stuff on them. Since then, the performance of my RS-80 has fluctuated. For example, I can get it dialed in at about 2-3 inches in the cup for a few hours then all of a sudden the skimmer startes going nuts and overflows the cup. Is this becasue of the varying docs going into the sump at any particular time? Sometimes I have to open up the riser tube all the way and it still pours into the cup.

I have an RS-80 too but have never had this extreme of a problem. It will go through cycles of producing and then slow down, and speed up again but I think it is something in your tank thats causing it. Have you used any 2-part puddy? Since you cant raise the riser, increase the airflow going into the chamber. the more air that enters the skimmer, the less water is sucked up so this should help lower the water level a bit.
