Overmoderation

Perhaps sometimes, but not in this case. There's no reason you should be posting a house for sale becaues it's not relevant to reefing. Our local forum shouldn't be a general classified section for anything in East TN. Just sayin.

And posts like this one are the sort that gets ya hit with the ban stick here.

I really don't believe so. I think the rules are pretty clear. They do not tolerate uncompensated commercial posting of any kind and frankly, I'm glad that that is the case. We are constantly bombarded with commercialism and it is nice to know that a place exists where that is kept to a minimum.

I agree that limiting commercializm on the forum is a good thing, but I'll have to say that Spencer's house post is as relevant to reefing as that football post "It's that time again". I get more than enough of football with having it on the reef forum, and UT football is about as commercial as it gets.

I knew someone would go there. ;) Comparing a single non-commercial thread on local sports (the longest and most viewed in ETRC history, I believe) to opening up this forum to a for-profit classifieds section on anything whatsoever is comparing apples to oranges. For comparison, if anyone wants to post tickets for sale, that should be removed, but if you want to discuss how beautiful the local architecture is, by all means start a thread! :)

A house I own is a lot more "local" to a member than a sports team that somebody has no ownership in at all. Further, as for referring to a rental as "commercial". I do not have a business license and do not have to have one to rent property...It is no different than a person selling a skimmer here.

As for banning...it wouldn't be the first time I'd been banned somewhere. It surely wouldn't be my first time crying over it either. No website is worth crying over. If anybody thinks so, they have absolutely no life and may need some mental help.

It's no secret that people don't like the overmoderation on some specific websites, and wish that people would move to another forum. It's just hard to make everybody move to a new place all of a sudden.

I have an idea that if all the rules and moderation that is done here now, was done when the forum started, then they wouldn't have grown to the size they are now.

So violating rule #1 (apples) vs violating rule #2 (oranges) is what we're talking about. The popularity of a thread doesn't exempt if from rules, does it?

Perhaps apples to oranges is what we have here....they're both fruits, but the apples are treated differently from the oranges. :lmao:

Get over yourself. This is a reef keeping site. It's not Craigslist or ebay. You're welcome to our resources to sell your reef related items here to other hobbyists.

Over-moderation would seem to imply that some sort of "special" treatment was given to your situation. In this particular case I'd call it "appropriate moderation."

And actually, you are completely wrong. The rules we enforce here are precisely the reason we've grown to the size we have.
