Oxygen and night time flow

I keep my flow the same during the day as well as during the night. I have read some posts where some people turn down the flow at night to create calmer waters.

From what I've read, during the day the water can get supersaturated with oxygen due to photosynthetic organisms. At night however oxygen levels fall and the tank can become hypoxic.

Wouldn't keeping the flow high at night help to ensure that whatever available oxygen in the tank is able to reach every living organism, in all areas of the tank? Wouldn't high flow also help the sps to nightly feed on phytoplankton?

Here is a good link.

I used to turn down my tunze's at night for calmer water movement, but it was useless. Now I always run them at high power and fish don't even mind, and my corals love it.
I mean who is to say that at night the water movement in the ocean slows down?

it doesnt slow down at night...thats what i say.....i think the whole night time thing is a gimmick for companies to sell their powerheads and wavemakers that s all

I also let my flow go full blast all night, I don't see any reason to slow it down. Plus the surface movement from the powerheads helps to get more 02 into the water at night time.

It's the whole "it's more natural" B.S.. There is nothing natural about it. Good flow at night is important regardless because our tank's are not natural.

Mine tunzes run the same day/night. I tried the whole night calmer waters but had the same theory as everyone else who's posted on this thread, bologna. Just keep the same setting all the time.

Same day and night is what tI do: if there is a time your tank desperately needs oxygen it's at night when algaes switch from oxygen producers and co2 users to CO2 producers and oxygen users. Your skimmer and pump should run full bore at night, imho.

Good to see that I wasn't the only one leaving my pumps running full throttle all night.

Thanks for the replies everyone :)
