Oxymonacanthus longirostris pair enters a mixed reef environment

Update time..

A few days ago both fish decided that Xenia was tasty, so they are no relentlessly eating it! I don't mind because I had so much in the tank. (see video) So now their bellies are super fat every day. They still haven't started eating anything other than the pellets and cyclopeeze. At least the Xenia is supplementing their diet in some fashion, no idea how nutritious it is though..

Oh and both Males still get along just fine and are doing great.

Thanks for the update. I have tons of Xenia but mine haven't eaten any. At least while I was watching. Have you tried prawn roe?

Haven't tried Ocean Nutrition Frozen or Prawn Roe, I'll have to do some looking next time I'm in the city for some of this stuff...

The .5 mm seem easier for their tiny mouths. I also feed sustainable aquatics pellets which are larger and which they take as well.

I added a small female orange spot filefish to my established male/female pair (which were added on 10/13/2012 from diver's den) late last week. She had been at a LFS for a while and had been eating and had very nice body mass.

Here is a less then steller cell phone video of the trio a minute after I added her to the tank

After the intial investigation the established female kinda went on a jeoulous rampage, chasing the new female as well as going after the established male as if to say "you better not be looking at her!" At points it even looked as if the male tried to break things up and distract the established female.

After about 36 hours things had settled down. The new female kinda keeps to herself while the pair cruises around the tank together.

Is the Red Sea species the same in habits/care? I've seen a few pairs get sold on LADD, and wonder if people here have purchased them.

Love this guy already! He did want anything to do with frozen foods at the store but I asked to put pellets in an boom! He ate it. Got him home...wants nothing to do with the micro pellets but loves the larger thera A NLS pellets! I'll take it!
