Ozone and 9015 skimmer

Got my Posiedon ozotech ozone device and hooked it up to my new 9015 skimmer. Couple of questions.

The Tunze manual says to plug the ozone line into the black skimmer port near the blue air screw. On the other side of the black ozone port it just goes into the space around the skimmer cup. Is that where the ozone is supposed to go? No connection or tubing to take it directly somewhere? Into the water? It smells like ozone is being released into the atmosphere around the skimmer. Running about 1 mg/20 gal.

Also, there is a small 1/4 inch diameter hole in the top of the black plastic skimmer housing near the top, on the opposite side of the blue air screw and ozone port, where a small amt of water drains out when the skimmer is running. Is this supposed to be open?

lastly, the ozone recommendations say to run the skimmed ozone treated water through activated charcoal before releasing the water back into the general flow. Since it looks like most of the treated water is coming out the foam covered black pipe, any suggestions on how this can be accomplished without affecting the skimmer function?

Thanks a ton!!

The small nipple is for adding ozone and the big nipple is for taking in air. The key to not blowing ozone out the air intake is to use a very low flow air pump, the smallest you can buy, something that does about 50 l/hr. With such a low dose I don't think the carbon is necessary but your best bet would be a carbon floss wrapped around the pipe in place of the sponge.

Thanks Robert - the carbon wrap is a great idea.

By large nipple do you mean the one with the blue screw on it?

And what about the hole in the black housing on the back side where water comes out?? Thanks.

Their are three protrusions under the cup, a large nipple, a small nipple and a air adjustment screw, the ozone connects to the small one, air comes in through the large one and they both collect under the cup and are taken in through the air adjustment screw.

The hole in the back is where water that is serving as a gasket for the cup exits. I suppose you could put a carbon pad on the back as well.
