Ozone generator DIY

NOTE : WARNING : DANGER!!! For those of you that read this, I don't want you to get carried away with high voltage. I am certified to work in high voltage and have done this many times. If you have not worked or have the knowledge for high voltage DONT DO THIS PROJECT !!! YOU CAN GET KILLED OR KILL OTHERS !!

I commend your motivation in this project, but I cant help but quote your other thread because it seems that you are responding to me:

Response to Bean: "I will give you credit thaw for trying to answer these people questions, for your effort, but sometimes you can say "yeah thats how you doit""

It seems that you are doing some "electrical engineering" here.

To quote you again: " ........call a real electrician"

In this case, it seems you are telling an electrical engineer to watch out .... should I have told you at the beginning of the thread to "........call a real electrical engineer" ???

But - really I am interested in your application of HV transformers from an old TV, I just think it is probably serious overkill for making ozone. If you want to have some fun search for "lifters" on Google.

Stu my last post was to the experimenter that is not too familiar with high voltage. Engineers are basic pencil pushers and do things on paper, some of them may have installed a light switch in their attic but that's about it :D Truth sometimes hurts :D

If it wasn't for engineers doing their work and research this field would not exist. They are the brains of electrical work. That still dos-not make them experience with electrical work, some of them never touched a screw driver, its not their job !! we do the work, that's the point I was trying tome my friend, get over it :D

Well, I'd tell you my experience with electricians (and their union labor) but it might throw me off the board! :D

"some of them never touched a screw driver"

Sorry, but I would make you a bet that I have more tools than you do. Everything from high freq welders to plasma cutters to table saws. I probably have more tools in my "throw away" box than most people have in their upright. I wasnt trying to start anything, just point out how you chewed people's asses ( in the other thread ) about trying to do what YOU do, now you are trying to do what I do.

Ok, so back on topic:

H2OENG,

Would this work as a generator?

http://www.mpja.com/prodinfo.asp?number=6057+KT

It looks like the Ions are generated by the little antenna thingys.

If we connected those to the grids, it might work

Seems worth a try for $12.

Stu

This should work as a high voltage source for ozone gen with minor mods. All we have to do is connect a ground for the arc generation just like the thread 0 Agios posted:

http://www.emanator.demon.co.uk/bigclive/ozone.htm

the $12 circuit from mpja should produce enough current without having to use a CRT HV supply ( more dangerous ).

Not sure, Stu. 3kv may not be enough.

I know those negative ion generators have been known to produce ozone, so maybe the voltage is high enough.

Electronic air cleaners (electrostatic precipitators) work on the same principle- high voltage charge on the particles that pass by the needles, then the charge causes the dirt to stick to the plates. These have a bad rap for creating that awful ozone that is poluuting the air everywhere!
