Hey team I have read for about 3 hrs now on Ozone and I need a personal e perience +|- on IT?
is it worth the 300$? What's the end game better Coral growth high volume of fish
can this be achieved with Carbon GFO or macro? I have had no problems with nitrate orphisphates but I wanna add more fish and ihave mostly sps so I need A good balance or no coral growth
I justdont know
input plz

Ozone use is not really for dealing with nitrate or phosphate but is more to deal with complex organic molecules and to raise the oxidoreducive potential of the water. The former will make the water greenish yellow and absorb some light. By removing them there is more light hitting the corals. Usung GAC will have the same effect.

The second is harder to explain but the net result is a shift in the tank chemistry to promote efficient breakdown of wastes.

Is it worth it- yes and no. I ran ozone, but i no longer do so. It can be a pain to set up and keep running. Nor should you use it without an accurately calibrated controller to measure ORP

Paul - just the guy I was looking for - I read about just can seem to make up my mind - I like the idea of higher o potential and I have a apex and would get a probeto make sure everything was in check and run it thru a driver Into my skimz pskimmer- but I fear it lol- our tank is in the living room and makes me nervous to have a 03 generator just pumping out gas - ox/red potential has proven benefits? It seems to be yeah for some and na for others - Soooo I guess I will read more test and then decide - seems kind of in nessacry bc I haven't seen one in person and know of people that have epic tanga with no 03 -
Thanks for the science lesson , I love me some school

I've never run it, but I've read that putting it on a timer might be beneficial for having a low dose for water clarity and not depending on an orp controller completely to dose it for you. I guess there's less chance of a mishap this way.

Also from what I've heard, carbon will do about the same thing like Paul said.

first off- the ozone generators we would run do not make enough 03 to fill a room- they can raise the level in the room for sure, but not above any dangerous threshhold level. The air going into the generator needs to be dried, any water in the system will really mess with efficiency. The effluent from the reactor/skimmer needs to be pased over GAC so as not to intruduce any residual any ozone by products in to the tank.

The ORP controller is essential to my mind. Running the ozone unit on a timer as suggested by Chad is one way people do this- but still monitor the ORP. On my system when I ran it, I used a timer and monitored the ORP. The ORP however will lag behind the ozone use, so go slowly.

When I ran it I liked it. when it was time to clean the Ozonizer I stopped running it.

I think it is useful for large applications and in situations where other methods of filtration are not viable. For general hobbyists, I think we can achieve the same results with GAC alone and god husbandry.

Loving the talk -I think the lastpart of yours one me over - it seems a little over the top for the $ at this point - I haven't had any problems all my sps have grown well and my water looks fine -
If I ever do decide to do it I will run by which machine I would get but as of right now think giving the tank some love and carb/gfo will be fine

Next idea zeovit lol
