Ozone vs UV??

I'm setting up another tank, and i have never used either of these, and wondering what the "Advanced Forum People suggest"

Its going to be a 3'x2'x30" tall tank.
I'm going to run a closed loop on it, so i can hook the UV to it and regulate the flow for whatever purpose needed.

and i can hook the Ozone to my skimmer in the sump.

I'm just not sure which would be better? i know they do similar things but also do totally different things. just not sure which would be better.

(I've been running reef tanks since 2008, and never needed either, but figured if one would be preferred, then i might as well prepare for it and if i never use it then no problem. but its there if i do.) and its easier to set it up now before the tank is running.

thanks!

Ozone will help clarify the water and also increases flocculation inside the skimmer, making the skimmer more efficient. UV won't do any of that. I'd go with ozone ;)

UV is good for keeping down the algae in the pond  Don't have a pond myself, so I've got ozone on the reef :)

I appreciate that info.

does Ozone do anything towards fish disease or anything else? does it aid in other things? as i said, i have no experience with either.

i was thinking uv for just in case for fish disease…. (but haven't had to deal with this yet haha)
and i have heard such great things about ozone and clarity of water (but also haven't ever used this either)

Properly configured (flow versus intensity) UV between tanks is very effective at isolating fish disease (parasites) from spreading to multiple tanks sharing water. For a single tank, it is not very effective.

i Personally have never had any disease effect fish when running an uv... no quarantine either.. fwiw.

I've numorous single tanks running UV that still get disease problems. QT is the best method for disease control.

As for ozone for disease control, with the right contact time and ozone levels, it can be very effective, but again only in the same scenario as UV in regards to single tank vs. multiple plumbed together tanks.

you can always have both , and have options , and they don't have to be run 24/7 , you could set both on timers etc. A small amount of ozone goes a long way , you may not need to run it all the time

I use both. UV runs 24x7, but the ozone runs on/off alternating hourly between tanks, although both are totally separate setups. If you use 50 ml/hr or less, you don't have to worry about all of the troubles associated with using ozone.

Here is what I use, 35ml/hr for spas off of ebay -

I plumb the output to my skimmer. It is the smaller, 1/4" tubing -
