Welcome to P.D.'s New Tank Thread!!
40 Breeder, Inspired by Elos...
This has been a long time coming since I've been slacking on making a thread, and the build has been long and slow. Here is a link to my previous thread which has the beginning of the build in it:
Ex to the next tank thread (Gang Starr reference)
Picking up from that thread, I installed the doors. This was way more difficult than it should have been, but it turned out alright.
The next step was painting the stand, and it took such a long time, and I don't really have any pics. I started out with rustoleum spray primer, but it was terrible, so I used Kilz2 to prime. I also started out using a brush, which was stupid, but I switched to a foam roller. The frame of the stand was painted with some SW Harmony I had laying around, and the doors with Dragon Fire Orange!!!
The finish is not perfect, but the defects are barely noticeable. I could have used a glossier paint, and done clear coats over it, but I'm happy with the way it turned out.
Next I drilled the tank. I got the 700gph kit from glass-holes, which was super easy and looks great on the tank.
Then, after much water testing, pvc painting, and black flexible tubing shopping, I brought the tank upstairs!
That's pretty much how it looks now, but it has saltwater in it, and the return is plumbed. I put a couple rocks in that had been in a bucket in the basement forever, so hopefully it's doing a bit of cycling. I hope to move everything over from it's temporary 20L home very soon.
Some equipment and specs:
40 Breeder tank with HDPE bare bottom
Custom euro style stand
4x39W Tek light, that I finally got working
10G sump for now, may use the 20L in the future
hydor return pump
tunze 9002 skimmer, may upgrade later
vortech mp20
reef fanatics level controller ato
thinking about the $99 Reefkeeper Lite
Animals are mostly LPS corals, couple zoos, couple mushrooms. I hope to create a very open, minimal aquascape, which shouldn't be too hard since I only have like 30lbs. of rock. Right now I have a clownfish, a sixline, and a chromis, but I'm considering only having chromis' or bangii cardinals in this tank.
Couple coral pics for fun:
I'll continue to update when I move everything to the new tank, which will hopefully be weeks and not months. Comments, questions, criticisms are always welcome of course!
Thanks!!
pd.
oooh, I almost forgot, if you want to see a real Elos tank with the Lamborghini Orange doors Click Here!!!! Pretty sweet!!!
