Ok, here it is almost ready to run..
A little info about my experience. Had saltwater tanks for over 10 yrs and never used skimmers nor fuge... had great corals acros to zoos (still do) but no tank over 75 gallons.. I got away with a lot, but with this size I obviously can't get away with any of that. So, I have tons to learn with all of this equipment and how everything works.

My goal is to have a lot of tangs and several other fish/inverts and mixed variety of corals... (i need to know a lot more about acros, other corals have been really easy to keep) and I have 3 large islands, the overflow box will act as one.

7ft(84inch) x 36inch x 30inch all sides starfire glass, center overflow box(which I will grow corals on)

I have 400 lbs + of live rock(which i let all die so i can start "clean") in there which look like much less, and coarse grade white substrate.

lighting: 400w mh X 3 sun light supply with two t5's on each fixture I may cover the entire lighting w a canopy next yr, or save for a nicer lighting system.

half hp bermuda pump for running the system
Using ecotech 240's for flow/waves
Large Bermuda for skimming
calc reactor
phosban reactor

Tank on the bottom will be fuge
Top tank is for fragging and what not

I just removed all the tap water and now will fill w/ ro water and start cycling, prob by tuesday, I just want to make sure Im happy with my rock work.

I have a couple questions and I know a ton more to follow:

1. What brand/type heater to buy for the system.

2. Should I definitely make a screen top for jumpers?

3. When adding fish and getting multiple tangs, do i have to add the same species at once? and will my large yellow tang get along w/ 2 more smaller yellow's?

4. Add 30 shrimp for cycling? (there is still a lot of die off on the rock, this will be nasty!)

5. Your opinions on my rockwork... Anything diff or is it good to go

6. should i get rid of bio balls or will they act as live rock in the fuge area?
Thanx guys!

I hope the dry side of mp40 arent inside the over flow they cannot get wet.
Maybe they arent mp 40 , hard to tell by picture.
LOL

so since i will not be using the mp40's... what wave makers/pumps can i use for water flow that are submersible?

Will i need 4 tunze to make the same amount of flow?

Not sure how many. That is kind of up to your needs, but Tunze would be the best alternative imo for submersible ph.

Also, I wouldn't bother with all the shrimp. Just take it slow and let the cycle progress naturally.

thank you, I appreciate the help. My goals are to keep a ton of corals (sps) so i may need 4 i guess... I just wish I could install 2 powerheads instead of 4....

So, is the cocktail shrimp thing a bad idea? I mean is it possible that I wont have an ammonia spike w/o using them? Im not sure it the dead stuff on my LR will create a spike?

Saleen, I had the tank ordered from Miracles glass aquariums in Canada, They did an amazing job, i cant wait to see this thing w some fish:bounce1:

2 6305's and a 7195 controller (tunze, is what one member scubasteve recommends... seeem ok? water will be running tonight!

Wow you have a beautiful home. The tank going to be a nice addition. One question will the wooden floor able to support the weight of the tank when filled. Also what happens when you spill alot of water on that floor, going to warp.

Hi, I'll be tagging along for the ride. Nice house and what's going to be a gorgeous tank! You are very lucky to be able to plumb it in your basement.

The rock, I would remove/rearrange the rock on the side that is closest to the fireplace. It looks kinda bulky and I think your fish will run out of room fast. In my last tank I had the entire back wall covered in rock (wayyy too much) and couldn't keep very many fish. You can always add rock later too.
The other side looks really nice btw! Is that fiji rock?

I would take the bioballs out. They never seem to help too much. Use liverock or a sock IMO.

I'm liking the large fuge! Keep us updated on that!

To clarify, bioballs are sometimes called "Nitrate Factories" as they're generally set-up in a Wet/Dry filter, which is the most efficient means of assisting the Nitrogen Cycle.

If they're maintained properly, they're great. With that said most people do not properly maintain them (keep them clean and clear of too much mulm).

Really nice tank BTW, would love to have a 360° viewable aquarium someday ;)
