Ok, here it is almost ready to run..
A little info about my experience. Had saltwater tanks for over 10 yrs and never used skimmers nor fuge... had great corals acros to zoos (still do) but no tank over 75 gallons.. I got away with a lot, but with this size I obviously can't get away with any of that. So, I have tons to learn with all of this equipment and how everything works.
My goal is to have a lot of tangs and several other fish/inverts and mixed variety of corals... (i need to know a lot more about acros, other corals have been really easy to keep) and I have 3 large islands, the overflow box will act as one.
7ft(84inch) x 36inch x 30inch all sides starfire glass, center overflow box(which I will grow corals on)
I have 400 lbs + of live rock(which i let all die so i can start "clean") in there which look like much less, and coarse grade white substrate.
lighting: 400w mh X 3 sun light supply with two t5's on each fixture I may cover the entire lighting w a canopy next yr, or save for a nicer lighting system.
half hp bermuda pump for running the system
Using ecotech 240's for flow/waves
Large Bermuda for skimming
calc reactor
phosban reactor
Tank on the bottom will be fuge
Top tank is for fragging and what not
I just removed all the tap water and now will fill w/ ro water and start cycling, prob by tuesday, I just want to make sure Im happy with my rock work.
I have a couple questions and I know a ton more to follow:
1. What brand/type heater to buy for the system.
2. Should I definitely make a screen top for jumpers?
3. When adding fish and getting multiple tangs, do i have to add the same species at once? and will my large yellow tang get along w/ 2 more smaller yellow's?
4. Add 30 shrimp for cycling? (there is still a lot of die off on the rock, this will be nasty!)
5. Your opinions on my rockwork... Anything diff or is it good to go
6. should i get rid of bio balls or will they act as live rock in the fuge area?
Thanx guys!
