can it be done? ive seen occelarius and true percs paired, such as sanjays clowns. ive also seen the tomato x occelaris clown hybrid on live aquaria. just wondering if it can be done.

saddlebacks are pretty docile compared to maroons and tomatoes, correct? ive always liked them and would love to pair one up with my picasso

IMHO, all clowns get aggressive as they mature. It's their nature. Clowns like maroons and polymnus simply get bigger than most so they can cause more damage when they act up. I don't think it's because they are any more or less "aggressive" than other clowns. Even different fish within the same species can have different personalities. The nastiest clown I've ever had, which I still have, is a 3" clarkii. Evil little fish.LOL

I don't see why you can't attempt a pairing between polymnus and percula. Maroons have been paired with ocellaris, and if you go by their scientific classification, polymnus and percula are closer related than maroon and ocellaris.

It is rare, but pairs consisting of different species are found in the wild.

I picked up a small saddleback today that's about half the size of my Picasso. I placed it qt with my other fish(tank is going thru an ich fallow period). As expected, my perc is chasing him around. I haven't seen any damage done yet, but my qt is a large tote and can allow the perc to lose sight of the saddleback. We will see how it goes. If there's any sign that the saddle is getting too beat up, I will separate them
