Pairing pj cardinals

He guys, I have 3 pj cardinals and wanted to know how I can tell the gender of each because I would like to pair 2 of them and hopefully breed. One of the three is very big and chases the other 2 and has even torn a piece of one of their tails. Should I remove it or are they similar to clowns, showing dominance meaning male/female.

One will eventually change sexes. The only way I can tell the males from the females with my PJ's and Bangaii's is when the male is holding. Other than that, the PJ's and Bangaii's look the same (sex wise) to my eyes.

So should I just take the bully out and have the other 2 pair

That depends on your tank size. I've got a large tank and there is always one of two that are annexed to the other side of the tank. If your tank is small, it may not be a bad idea to remove the bully or the odd one. That or give it some time and see what happens. How long have they been in your tank and how big is the display?

My display is a 125 gallon 6 foot long tank. The pj's have been in there for about 4 months
