Pajama Cardinalfish

Hello, I am a first time user looking for information about my PJ cardinalfish and breeding. Several months ago I noticed that one of my 3 PJ's stopped eating and had a bulging jaw. At the time I thought he was sick but now know that he was carrying babies. This has happened twice but the little ones have always been gobbled up right away- I have never even seen them. Well, he is carrying again and I would very much like to give the babies a chance. I read the thread about breeding Banggais and was wondering whether I could expect results if I treated the PJ's the same way or if anyone has experience breeding them. I have a 10 gallon QT which is currently broken down but I could get it up and running again this afternoon and transfer the proud papa. I am rather new to the hobby (NEVER expected this!!) and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I just pulled the male with the eggs out of my main tank to place him in the nursery tank and he spit the eggs out while panicking to escape the dreaded net. I placed both he and the eggs in the new tank- any chance he will pick them back up and carry them to term?

Ef--please do a search. This topic has been discussed many time.
First off congrats- your fish are happy.
Basically, to answer your question-- NO- banggais are special
PJ, orbic, and most other apogons mouthbrood, but this is where the similarity to banggais end. Banggai have direct developing fry and hold the eggs/fry til day 21.
PJ, orbic, etc, hold the eggs til days 7-10 and release free floating planktonic larvae. So thats the bad news, the good news is you can raise the PJ fry its just alot of work compared to banggais. "S' strain rotifers, and/or pod nauplii for first foods, as well as dealing w/ planktonic fry (have you raised clownfish or psuedochromis fry yet?)
good luck
