Palythoa Grandis - Behavior change

What does this behavior mean? I can't seem to find anything specific on-line so I am hoping some personal experience could help me out.

This little guy was added about 2 months ago. He was flat as a plate and appeared healthy, from my research. But now he has become wavy. And I can't find any information on why he would change and if its good verse bad?

Water testing done yesterday:
Sal:1.027, Mg:1500, Ca:380, kH:9, Phos:0, Nitrate:0, Ammonia:0, pH:7.78, Temp:78.25

Any suggestions?

Mine do that from time to time also depending on the flow they are getting, it was a nice reminder to clean my power heads. But what concerns me more is the lack of tentacles, usually that is a sign of something eating them or old water. At least that's in my experiences.

Have you made any changes recently? Your parameters look ok, but your Salinity & Magnesium are a little high & your Calcium is a little low. I don't really think this is what's causing the polyps to behave like that though.

My Magnesium has always been on the high side (over a year), I dose daily for my kH and twice a week for calcium. That has been the normal routine for around 6 months. Water changes weekly. I changes water flow a bit ago, it was only changed for about a week before I put it back to the original position. He isn't really in the direct path of water flow change, but I do understand any change in flow effects everywhere.

Interesting, I see your point of lack of tentacles. Now I feel like a terrible parent :( I'm digging around for the original pictures of when I got him, I can't remember if there ever was tentacles. What would be eating them? I have smaller Palythoa's and they all have tentacles and are placed in same area of tank (about 8 inches or so away) I think I will move him up off the sand bed and keep an eye out. I hope nothing is eating him!

good morning, sorry for the delayed response. Here are my tenants

Frogspawn, Anemone, Hammer head, Nepthea, Mushroom, star polyps, Palythoa small (plus the one in question), Clove polyps, xenia, and trumpet

Ocellaris Clown (2), Yellow Jaw, Royal Damsel, Dotty.

Sand snails, peppermint shrimp, emerald crabs (3)

Been keeping eye on it and nothing seems to be bothering him

I've had that as well and I just thought they were getting too much lighting. It took mine a month to bounce back. It only happened to the ones closer to the top of my rocks. If you give them less light they might go back to normal quickly or take a couple weeks. I'd give it a try.

Yeah I don't see anything on your list to really bother them.

Here's a pic of mine, whites just turned on and the tank is due for a water change by Monday. Also don't mind the long hair algae lol. I need to figure out something to take care of it.

Do you feed yours anything? I feed mine some salmon every once and a while when I'm feeding my Acans, Frogspawn, Hammer and Gonastrea.

I have a customer who's husband goes salmon fishing here in the SF Bay Area and she offered me some fish, I couldn't refuse. Ended up with a large garbage bag of fresh salmon. Gave a bunch to family members and I kept a large ziplock of steaks. I just cut some off, defrost in a cup of water and feed my LPS little bits the size of granola. Every once in a while I'll feed some to the Grandis, they eat it up real good. I was doing it because at one point their color was becoming lack luster, no green and barely any brown. They were growing fast when I was doing it regularly so I cut down on their feedings so that they wouldn't get too big since I only have a 26 gallon tank. Now that I broadcast feed Reef Roids twice a week it seems that I don't have to give them any food but I do for fun because they eat just like Acans, aggressive!
