Palythoa Grandis--lighting requirements?

Does anyone know if palythoa grandis (mosaic or psychedelic polyps) need hi med or low light??

any care info would really help or share experiences with these palys

Is there a proper way to acclimate polyps to your tanks lighting?

I dont know specifically what it needs, but definately more to the med-high side is probably going to be better since it is photosynthetic.
How big is the tank? what lighting do you have?

Normally the best way to acclimate is put it on the bottom and over the next weeks, move it up a little at a time to let it get used to the lighting until it is where it needs to be.

Ya, you are probably fine everywhere in your tank. i've keep them lower though.. but thats just my preference

Lower in that tank, I've seen colorful ones brown out under bright light. They are also a great way to tell you if your water parameters are off, since they are quite finicky sometimes. They grow slowly I've noticed but if you feed them they can grow pretty well. one could probably eat a single piece of krill, although a small turkey baste of brine and mysis would probably be best.

Feed them fish pellets or LPS coral pellets once a week.
Mid to high light and a decent flow, not too much.
Constant water params.
Avoid moving them around... :thumbsup:

mine are on the bottom of a JBJ NC, 150w Kessils LED about 8 in over the water.

Mine got bleached out by my own stupidity. I don't think it had to due with lights because it was doing great before my crash. It's a trooper- although it took a while to open, but now he's growing, taking food. Still bleached, but seems to open the most low in tank, low flow.

They may do OK with higher light but don't seem to need it.
I have one small colony that is getting NO direct light (under a ledge), at the bottom of a 24" deep tank with 250W 14K bulbs about 12" above the water. They get some reflected light and probably scavenge an occasional feeding time morsel. They have even grown, although very slowly.

I have also seen them diving at 70+ feet, in partially shaded locations.

On the other hand, I have 2 colonies in relatively high light, which do well too.
I would acclimate slowly as recommended by a previous post.

Hi all ,

My green grandis palys are lower in my 75DT under chinese 120w LEDs. They used to be great but had to move due to some issues with majanos.

Now though they are on BB floor they are curled up . Why? they even have babies around the 2 big heads.

I also have brown cinnamon palys close to it. They dont curl up but used to be cinnamon color now they are bit bleached. I am guessing
lighting is too direct /intense. What do u think?

My params are ok. I target feed every 2 wks.
