Palythoa Grandis question.

hey there,

I just came across some cinnamon polyps, a google search led me to palythoa grandis. The guy a the LFS informed me they do not like light, that is the reason they are closed up. He compared them to sun polyps, and said they should be put in the shade. Is this true, if so they will need to be spot fed.
any help on the placement and care for palythoa grandis would be appreciated.

I also purchased the paly in thecenter of the picture, Is this a grandis too? or something else?

Nope there not like sun corals they DO need some light. They will also enjoy being fed once a week. Sun corals do not need any light and should be fed at least twice a week.

I have mine under 4x54 watt T-5's - they are slightly shaded but still get a good amount of light. I feed arcti pods every night & they grab some out of the water. I sometimes target feed mysis shrimp (usually once every couple of weeks).

I tried moving them up in the tank,.see if that will encouage them to open, one polyp looks like it wants too. The palys in the pic have all opened, and there's two more frags of the same. I got a pretty good deal, 12 polyps of the grandis, and about twenty loose polyps mixed zoas for $8.99, all together I made ten frags,
two different grandis morphs and 4 or 5 zoa morphs

i just got a pretty big frag of grandis for twelve bucks. got about ten polyps. just curious, they always seem to draw a lot of attention. not quite sure why?

I guess cause they are big!!, big houses, big hummers, big breats(boca), big polyps, more for your money. ??

I did not know what the polyps in the first pic were, the guy at the store just kept throwing stufff in the bag, i kept saying o.k., o.k., o.k.

Jessp, can you steer me in the right direction. I have noticed you are getting alot of zoa colonies. I cannot find the selection up this way, is there a place in Miami worthy of taking a trip?

aquarium concepts has had a few nice pieces lately. they can be hit or miss. and sometimes a bit pricey, but big colonies w/ a couple hundred polyps that i can frag to ease the monetary blow.

the palythoa grandis i got from an online vendor in the keys. it was twelve and twelve for the frag and shipping. I will pm you the info.
