parking lot halide

So I ran into a weird idea the other day... utilizing a parking lot/outdoor halide fixture for a reef. They are water proof, which would work out well on a tank. And I have seen some which are 250 watt single ended fixtures. Now, I dont usually post anything because I can almost always find my answer by searching, but after searching for this particular question, I could only find a couple of short threads with minimal information. This minimal information included peoples "opinions" on a subject they have never dealt with and I would greatly appreciate anyones experienced knowledge with this and how it worked out!

AWESOME that you use the search button. sooooooo many ppl dont..so kudos for that...

i run 3x sylvania indoor/outdoor metal halide ballasts for about 10yrs now. grows anything and everything i want. no complaints...

Coolio! I actually found some cheap sylvanias the other day and wanted to try them out. was there anything you had to do to the fixture besides change the bulb to make it work on a tank?

Don't use a unit that runs mercury vapour ballasts as they drive halide lamps to produce too much UV and this burns corals. As long as the ballasts are sodium or halide it should run aquatic lamps fine.
