Patching bottom holes on a 120g

I have a 120 gallon that is 48x24x24 It has to sets of holes that are for 3/4 and 1 inch bulk heads.

I want to put a single piece of glass over each set of holes. The bottom glass isn't touching anything since there's a plastic frame around it.

Can I get away with covering each set with a 1/2inch glass rectangle patch if its long and wide enough?

The other resort is just capped off bulkheads.

Yes. Just seal it with aquarium-safe silicone. This is a glass tank and you're putting the patch on the inside, right?

I did the exact same thing to my tank, no issues at all in 2-1/2 years. Use a good structural silicone, I like Momentive RTV or GE SCS1200 silicone. RTV 103 is black silicone and 108 is clear silicone. Place a ring of silicone around each hole and 1/2" inside the footprint of the glass patch. Push down hard on the glass then run a bead of silicone around the outside of the glass patch. Wait at least 10 days fir the silicone to cure before adding water.

Let them dry for a while. Make sure that the surfaces are clean and make sure that you let the silicone cure for the max amount of time and you will be just fine. I have one like this going for about ten years now.

Just be warned that the 'patches' are extremely difficult to remove should you change your mind.
