PaulB

Paul did you or do you work at Suffolk County Fish and Reef or where a customer? I worked there a few years back in the store and did the mobile aquarium service. I sure am glad I dont live in Long Island anymore after Sandy I am even more glad to live in Arizona.

No, I was an electrician and never worked or even heard of that place.

I have been to Arizona. How do you live without an ocean?
My boat makes a lot of noise when I try to run it in sand and those cactuses scratch the gel coat. :debi:

And the hits just keep on coming for you guys. Good grief. Good to hear your boat survived and too bad about your neighbours. Hopefully this is the end of everyone's torment. Although, they say these things come in 3s!:eek2:

The neighborhood is getting cleaned up but there are still huge stumps everywhere and many homes covered in tarps from where trees crushed them.
Today they removed most of the fallen limbs on my block. My neighbors electrical service came off his house and I had to put that back up, While I was outside another old neighbor from down the block came over and asked me to put his service back up, so I did that, while I was doing that another older woman saw me and asked if I would cut her phone line that fell in her yard. Then another guy from around the block wants me to look at his generator and I have been getting phone calls on how to hook up a generator. I am staying indoors now because I want to do some of my work and I am beginning to demolish my bathroom to re do it so I need some time. I may have to go back to work so I can take a day off :lmao:

Good to hear you, your family and the tank are well. I got lucky. My neighbor across the street didn't lose power and I ran extension cords for the tank. I don't have a generator so my neighbor was a lifesaver. Lowest the tank went was 68* and only lost a 3" piece of orange monti cap. Took 12 days to get power back.

Hey Paul, glad you and your family (and that darling granddaughter of yours) are doing doing ok! I somehow missed this thread and have been wondering how you were doing. I finally thought to do a post search on you, no I'm not a creeper! :D

Micki, I like creepers. My power was out for a few days and my internet also croaked but I have a generator so every 4 hours or so I had power. I didn't want to run rthe generator continousely because there was no gas available on Long Island. I stored a bunch of it before the storm so we were fine. Many people still don't have power but most of our fallen trees are cleaned up and the homes they fell on are covered in tarps.
My tank was fine and I think the fish enjoyed the change of temperatures.
My Granddaughter came here during the storm because they live in lower Manhattan which was flooded so they had no power or water. And Greta likes to drink a lot.
We are going to see her today as this is her first Thanksgiving and today will be the first day she trys to eat something besides breast milk so we will see how that goes. Maybe she will gnaw on a drumstick, I am not sure.
I don't think the hurricane affected Ohio, at least I don't think so but if it did, I hope you guys are great.
This year will be the first year I can't play Santa Claus at the NYU Childrens cancer hospital. The hospital was severly damaged and the patients had to be evacuated.
The children there are the worst of the worst cancer patients from all over the world and it is their last hope, I am not sure where they went but I pray they and their families have a little joy today and for Christmas. Sadly, most of them do not make it and it was a visit I really did not look forward to but I felt I had to go. We always went with gurneys full of toys but most of the patients were to sick to play with anything.
Anyway to all here, have a fantastic Thanksgiving, I know the turkeys won't be very happy but I won't eat fish today so they will be happy.:wavehand:

I still have Elmo on the wall on Greta's wall but he got fired so I am not sure if he can stay there. :lmao:

Oh ok. I just so happened to work with an old salt also named Paul at Suffolk County Fish and Reef. You should go there and check it out if it is still there after Sandy. They are located near Lake Ronkonkoma, dont know where you are located but the island is small.

Paul, I don't post much, but do look forward to your posts as they brighten my day. I lost my Dad in March of this year and even though I don't know you personally, you remind me of him and make me smile!! Glad to hear you are safe and I know what it's like to deal with the mess of a hurricane living in Louisiana. I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thank you for being who you are and keeping things interesting!!!!

Allsps, I am about 50 miles from there but I will try to check it out.

Dbraun, so sorry about your Dad. That is never a good thing, I have been missing my Dad for 54 years now. We really need our Fathers and it is a horrible thing to lose them even though we all go through it at one time or another.

Paul, glad to hear all is well with you following the storms. Seeing the storm pictures was just mind blowing! No storm problems here in Ohio although, I am ready for a snow storm any time! :)

It's amazing that there are still so many people without heat and electric and the hurricane was over a month ago. Some apartment buildings have temporary boilers out in the street but those places are now loaded with mold from being without heat and electric so long. One place the water tank on the roof leaked through the entire building. One of my friends is living in a trailer after losing his home but in Queens alone over 140 houses burned down. I didn't realize the devastation on our beaches here.
The boardwalks on the public beaches are for the most part gone. I know Jones Beach theater looks like a war zone with boats piled up all over the place.
I normally play Santa Claus in NYU hospital for the kids with severe cancer but they evacuated the place and the patients have not got back there yet.
We are supposed to do it in March which is a little late for a visit from Santa but I guess better late then never.
I have been playing Santa since I got home from the Army, and my birthday is on Christmas which makes it more fun. :wavehand:
Of course I will be Santa to my new Granddaughter Greta. We took her last week to cut down the Christmas tree but she didn't help much.
Maybe she had to many clothes on. :worried:

Great family picture Paul! I had no idea there is still so many hurricane issues. I feel bad for all of those people!

Micki, entire neighborhoods washed away and it will take years to re build, if ever. Much of that land is not even there any longer.
The Statue of Liberty opened the day before the hurricane and now the base is damaged so it is closed as well as Ellis Island. The benches washed away with some of the railings and on Ellis Island there was 4' of water in the basement so the storage rooms and electrical rooms were underwater.
Many homes in my area are still covered in tarps from where trees crashed through the roof's.
It ain't over yet.

Being it is almost Christmas (and my birthday) I thought it apropriate to post a picture in my normal job

That's hard to even Fathom Paul... Wow...

Pics are wonderful!

Now that I have a new Granddaughter I can finally take out some things I built for my Daughter 35 years ago. This is Rocky and we will give it to Greta for Christmas.
I also built Rockette which is a girl rocking horse but she is a little larger and she will wait a couple of years to be taken out of storage.
Greta is going to be so excited.
I am glad I saved these things.
