im putting new lights on my tank 29 gal. Better choice: 4 24 watt t5s or 2 65 watt pcs? What corals will i be able to keep with this lighting? I currently am having success with 1 65 watt pc taking care of mushrooms and sarcophyton and zoos. What can I expect out of doubling my lighting?

t5's without a doubt. i had pcs first and went with t5's after about a year and now im keeping everything including sps's.

good luck

thanks do you think i could keep sps with 4 24s over my 29? How bout clams? Dont want to go with mh.

Go with the 4 24 watt t5s , I have a retro over my 30 and it works great.

More lighting will give more growth, and likely different coloration and expansion. The T5 setup, if it has a reflector per bulb, will put much more light into the tank per watt. I use 2x55 W PC bulbs over a soft coral 29g, and the results are fine, in my opinion.

i have a 55 with 4 54 watt bulbs and am keeping all sorts of sps's. i would definately say yes. however, try to buy a small acro frag from your lfs and see if you can keep for about a month.

my lfs had a bunch of acro frags under 20k mh and they were brown. i tried just for the hell of it to keep acros under my t5's, and not only could i keep them, but they colored up to turquios and purple acros!!! also have a variety of monti plates.

ny other questions, let me know.

i saw a cheap current fixture at DRS F&S it is a 30" t5 fixture with 2 24 watt t5s it is only 4 1/4 inches front to back. Theyre like 60 bucks. Could i use 2 of these over my tank or am i getting too cheap?

that would work great. many people talk about the individual reflectors but i dont have them and im doing fine. again, i dont want to give you wrong advice, im just telling you my scenario. im telling you to pick t5's over pc's. and if you do go with the t5's, then test a single sps frag for about a month.
