Pea Soup

Hi reefers,
I have a 120 gal than that I took down to clean out and get rid of snails. The 50 lbs of LR was put in a barrel with treated water to maintain the bio.
The tank was refilled, rock in place, treated with ammonia which was processed pronto and barely reading nitrates.
I added a tang and rabbit face into the tank and they are doing fine.
The thing is the water is changing to pea soup like it did the first time I set it up.
I am going to run some phosban in a reactor.
Will my fish be ok during this process.
Thanks.

Tell us a little bit more about your tank (filtration, water movement).

What did you mean when you said the rock was kept in a barrel with "treated water?"

Fish won't have any problem with running phosban in a reactor, and generally wouldn't have any problem with algae in the water. However, my concern would be maintaining oxygen level in the tank, specifically at night, when all that algae is consuming oxygen rather than producing it. Or, if you kill all that floating algae and have a bacterial bloom that consumes the oxygen. Make sure you have adequate surface agitation to keep your water well oxygenated.

I have 2 MP 40's running and breaking the surface. . The main pump is available but not running yet.
As I only have 2 fish in a 120, I am pretty sure the LR will handle that. There is no mechanical filtration. I might use some socks to remove dead algae at some point,

Skimmer?

And...

You also mentioned this happened before you took down the last tank, and you are reusing the live rock from that tank. Where did this live rock come from?

If your water is full of floating algae, it won't clear without some sort of filtration/skimming/water changes.

This tank has been ruining 5 yrs. A while back I ordered some snails in which the vendor also sent ,unknown to me, in that order, 15 small snails that multiplied by the hundreds. I have taken the tank down to get all of the snails out and get rid of some algae on my rock, by placing the rock in a barrel with salt water and ammonia added which killed the snails and the lid on the barrel killed the algea.
The tank pea souped before when I did the first setup.
My hope is that I can starve the algae out by removing phosphates and keeping light low.
