Pectinia..how much would you pay for this?

They have been mariculturing Chalice corals for at least the last two years, yet I dont see $20 frags.

If betting were allowed on reefcentral Id bet you 1K your wrong one year from today.

They? Instead of debating qualifications I'll just go the short route and say that there is no facility mariculturing "rainbow" chalice corals on any remote scale, much less on the size of the Indo facility these soon-to-be common Pectinias are coming from.

Honestly I don't understand your aggressiveness over nothing. Maybe you feel like I was pooping on your thread, which definitely wasn't my intention, or maybe you're involved in selling these and don't want some inside industry info to be pointed out on them.

I know a vendor that was selling some multicolor blue based chalice corals I would consider rainbow. Another vendor sent me a photo of THOUSANDS of that challice. That being said, pectina are the it coral right now, and I think prices will hold for a while. In Montana I saw a green orange and purple colony for 50 bucks.

Personally I dont care how much they will sell for next year this time. I just know i paid less than half of what the $800 someone paid last week on divers den.

Personally i think $20 in a year is crazy talk, but hey everyone can have an opinion...

I agree..my friend sends me the wholeseller list 4 or 5 times a week..i see the same exact thing.....ps..im 100% hobbyist ..just lucky to have a inside connection that can sometimes hook me up.

$47 on ebay as of last weekend and the frag came from one of those "rare" colonies you posted. You're right, a year is crazy talk, it's looking more like 6 months. I just feel bad for people who get conned into buying one of these for $700 on the false premise that they're "rare" thinking their price isn't going to drop like a rock, and threads like these where people argue uninformed opinions vs industry experience don't help keep hobbyists educated either.

I get 1 inch chalice frags for like 5$ from my LFS but they are brownish blue with green eyes so they dont look that cool.

I will resurrect this dead forum lol. My LFS offered me and alien something pectinia frag for $30, and have a bunch coming in that will be priced between $20-30 a frag. I'm in sacramento. So to those saying a year was impossible just got blown away. Only been six months and they are here. I had never heard of pectinia til I saw one last week. Wow. By far a must have already. So there you have it. Buy em before they're gone, cause I'm getting a few!

This hobby is no different than any other. "New" things are always overpriced, and the sellers capitalize on those that have to have the latest and greatest as soon as it is available... I don't know why this is hard to believe. All prices are inflated when items first hit the market. Why would this be different for the coral and fish market?

An update to my previous post about pectinias being cheap and available.....here she is. $30 at the LFS, one of the few corals I have bought from there.

Those are beautiful. I have been looking for a pectinia & the only ones with the coloration I like have been on DD.

Depends on where you look for one, but I have seen them come down to about $65 to $75 in our area compared to large piece at $598 a few months ago. I have not been impressed with anything here locally even with the lower price tag. I'm thinking I will have to hold out for something nicer & expect to pay a little more. But I'm not spending $800 when my horse only cost me $750 lol.

The mother colony of the one I have pictured above is priced at about 200 at my LFS. Insane deal...but not worth a drive from Chicago. I'm sure they will be coming your way soon. It took the one in that pic a month to start to grow, and multiple feedings have helped it greatly. It now puts out a dozen feelers nightly, and they keep getting longer. Very awesome growth pattern. I picked up a riddler pectinia as well from that store, in bad shape.... you can see it on the rescue coral thread. My last pectinia i now want is a space invader....

Space invader is my favorite! I have a couple colonies now... Love the random growth patterns depending on placement... Very interesting corals...

Man I love these. I have one but it's not a rainbow and I have not seen any online that are cheap for 4" size or so. The plain ones that size are about $125 from LA or PEA.
