So the tank has been running about 7 years. About a month ago the CO2 ran out , the pressure gage was low and they were bubbles in the counter but alk/calcium balance went way off. Then the pump on my calcium reactor dies.

So my sps are not a happy bunch.The last hydro bill also arrived and it's not getting any smaller!!!

So it's change time. Tank is a 96x30x24 with a 75 gallon sump. looking 3-400 gallon range.

Current equipment skimmer deltec ap 902 with 3 eheim 1262 pumps 1 feed

lighting 2 ATI power module 10 x54

Return reeflow dart hybrid

flow 2 tunze 6105 and 2 6095

Thinking it's time for a radical change. Looking at new equipment,and new methods. Just starting zeovit getting away from prodibio. My fish load is on the heavy side. Thinking led to get away from the bulb changes, maybe smaller dc on the return pump. Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations? I really need to reduce the hydro use, as a side note the wife has her own 260 so the Hydro is not a fun bill.:lolspin:

Return pump no real idea still trying to decide how much flow I really need

On the DC pump for the return... Not sure you want to go this route just yet. The DC pumps are still fairly new and most come from China.Unless you have a controller that can alert you if the pump goes down, I wouldn't trust it as a main return pump. I have a Jebao on a closed loop. Love the controllability and quiet efficient operation, but it's not as reliable as a quality AC pump (reeflo, eheim, iwaki, etc). I originally bought it to replace my return pump, but it didn't have enough head pressure. Last month, after running for about 6 months, it locked up. The impellar and magnet only needed a 24hr vinegar soak to get it running again, but im glad it wasn't my return pump.
Any way, just my $.02 on DC pumps.

I use LED lighting and love it....but don't want to get into another LED v MH debate on your thread. I do however also use Zeovit and its pretty amazing what it does, the ULNS system is very easy to maintain, I spend probably no more than 2 minutes a day dosing. I guess there is the added cost but the bottles seem to last forever! I'd guess at maybe $10 a week for what I am dosing on a regular basis. But you've removed refugiums, biopellets, UV etc etc. I'd highly recommend it.

I've been running a waveline DC pump for about two years, now. No problems at all. The flow seems to be a little bit lower than claimed, but I am very happy with it.

Algae scrubbers cut my water changes by half but notice some soft corals get mad though.
