I just recently picked up a pair of these beautiful fish. The species I have is Pseudojuloides severnsi.I know that they often don't ship well, but mine came in pristine and are eating like champs. Does anyone else keep these beautiful fish? I could not find any information about them online.

+1 Had one for a year...it was awesome but started to lose it's bright colors. I couldn't find any info on them either...whether it needed a harem or not. It ended up jumping out one day that someone unplugged the lights suddenly. I was bummed...it was a great fish.

Pencil wrasse not reef safe

Pencil wrasse not reef safe

I just took my pencil wrasse back to the local pet store. I had him for 6 months or more and he seemed to be doing well. I did notice that I was finding less and less hermit crabs around in my tank but didn't think anything about it as it was about time to buy another batch of cleanup crews anyway. Well, I started putting the new hermits in my tank and the wrasses comes over and starts flipping the shells over trying to get at the crabs. Needless to say I was not pleased. I was able to corner him and get him out of my tank finally tho. So if you have a reef or any SW tank that uses lots of hermits in your clean up crew, think twice before you get a pencil wrasse.
