Peninsula Style Look-Down Build

dan I like that color it looks very nice. Seems everyone is ending up with almost all blue t5 's. I may end up with a similar color as yours.

I have been ditching white bulbs fast. About to replace 1 of my last 2 day bulbs with a 75.25. For the same reasons as pisces.

Only thing i am concerned about in my tank is my maxima clam on the sand getting enough from the mostly blue light.

This is what i will run i am thinking it will look like a 20k radium look.(i can hear them halide guys laughing in the background)

Thanks.

as far as lighting goes... I've tried a lot.

the 75-25 was far too reddish pink for me. even though i've heard it has decent PAR. another bulb you might be interested in... would be the ATI 15k daylight aquablue special bulb. (the acan pic above was taken with a 75-25 on)

Pisces, we will know whether the all blue lights are good... or not when our SPS get colorful or brown LOL.

As for the 20k radium look... i RAN a 20k radium over my tank. the coloration of t5 bulbs BLOWS it away. the end.

Dan your tank is beautiful! So sorry to hear about your fish! That's to bad! I didn't know brains corals would eat fish?I have not had a problem "YET" with my clowns but now Im a little worried! lol

thanks shawna!

Clowns should be fine. Cardinals are weak swimmers... so maybe they just got stuck... and eaten lol.

is that a 75.25 on in post # 136?

You said it was to reddish pink for you. Did you change it out again?.

post 136 was with the giesemann 11k in. (the brain pic might have been a 75-25 pic judging by the sandbed)

the post with the red lakers zoos, and the pink acans was the 75-25. also my tang pic was 75-25.

supposedly they get whiter when they burn in. I was going for a deeper richer blue look with coral flourescence, so i no longer run any bulb lower than 22k.

BTW i have a 75-25 36inch t5 bulb for pickup if anyone wants it. free. it was used for about 15 hours total.

Coincidentally, the powerbrites shouldn't be too bright and hurt your corals. I have 3 strips mounted on the underside of a 4x24wt5ho over the woman's mushroom tank. It doesn't seem to be too much light, I haven't seen any signs of stress or melting.

Somewhere I read that the PAR directly under pwerbrites is around 180 and considerably less under the surface and down to the sand. It's possible that it was too much from the t5's if you're running 6x39w over a 12" deep tank. I'm running the same over 18" deep and growing SPS in the sand. The pure actinic/420nm bulbs put out a lot less PAR than the 460nm/blue+. It's probably just a matter of finding the best combo that still provides adequate PAR and spectrum. The amount of blue in your lineup is probably plenty without the powerbrites unless you really like the retarded amount of neon glow.

indeed. The "460 blues" made by giesemann are actually 520s i think... or 22k bulbs. Supposedly they have decent PAR. not sure though. I definitely think the giesemann aquablue plus 11k bulb was too much for my corals. (as was the 14 hour powerbrite photoperiod).

Since now i have a lot of blue bulbs, the glow is great! (not so great when only one blue bulb is on compared to the 4 bulbs during peak "daylight" hours). The powerbrites... since they were close to the tank, created an artifical look that was just too much with all the blue lights. (artificial as in a mechanical blue color to the water).

I only run the 2 pure actinic type bulbs for the color of the actual water (not corals). if i run all 22k bulbs, the water becomes a bright flat ugly blue color LOL.

happy reefing,
dan

Pisces: I know you also like to take photos of your tank... with all the blue light you are running, be sure to manually set your white balance. Any of the built in ones will wash out your pics :)

that is a sick lobophyllia dan. and is that coral below your peach hammer an acan, zoa? i can barely tell, it turned out amazing in that pic.. btw, what camera are you using?

awesome setup man... very awesome. love the minimalist setup. its hard to capture that aspect, and it gives me inspiration to maybe get a tank like that setup someday.
