Pentax K-z

I have been looking for months for a DSLR. I am going to use it for corals and my son's sports. I do not care about the video and I would use the eyepiece not the screen. I have been looking at the Pentax K-z. I can buy it for around 150 a month which I am able to do. Any one have any thoughts on this camera?
Thanks

Assuming that you are talking about the new Pentax Kx.

I tried it out recently in the store and with a friend and was really surprised by the performance and the advances over the previous pentax models.
it has really good ISO up to around 6400 and looks reasonably good even at iso 12800. Focusing is fast/competitive, video is good, 1/6000th max shutter speed, and up to 4.5 fps.

Pentax removed the weathersealing and AF overlay points from its predecessor but made out with some cool color choices (us red, blue, white, black)

The grips is unexpectedly large for an entrylevel which I really like.
DP review posted a review on it that you might want to check out.

Also look into the nikon d500, and canon T1i.

I think its a great camera but check out all options to see what works out well for you in terms of lens selection, price, and areas of performance.

I understand that the correct lens is as important as the camera. I honestly have no experience with any SLR cameras in the past 20 years and no experience with the new DSLRs. In saying that I also have no clue what the correct lens might be. So does Pentax have the correct lens to shoot corals?
Kids? and there sports?
Thanks

Pentax has what you'll need.

they dont have as many lenses that are currently in production but there are a good number of options between the modern lenses and their legacy glass.

the kit lenses should do fine for you and with the high iso performance, improved AF, 4.5 fps, and 1/6000 shutter speed I think that you'll do well with the kit for your needs.

The only think you might think about buying is a macro lens

pentax 35mm Macro, DFA 100mm macro, Sigma 105mm macro.

which reminds me that there are plenty of tamron, sigma, and tokina lenses that are available in pentax mounts so that opens up lens options even more.

heres another 6400 iso image someone posted.

Thank you very much for the help all. I will need a macro for taking photographs of the corals. I do not know how a canon or a Nikon feels so I will not need to relearn any of that. Thanks again . Keep the comments comming please..

What else would you like to know?

theres a great forum for pentax. just google it.

I wouldn't necessarily dismiss the nikon and canon entry levels either. each has their strengths and weaknesses. Unless you have a lot of pentax glass already, there shouldn't be too much to relearn as the entry-level cameras are all pretty user friendly.

Otherwise. The kx is a great camera to have in the bag
