People with multiple angels please help!

Very nice tank BlueNWhite! That is weird about the blueface. That is a nice angel though, love the adult look. How does the morish idol get along with everything? Is the only chasing going on the majestic on the blueface?
...
Thanks! I got a 'bad' picture of the Blueface yesterday, but I haven't had the chance to upload it yet. Will try to get it up soon.

The Moorish Idol doesn't bother anyone. It is one of the biggest fish in there now, but does not use it to intimidate the other fish. If anything, the Purple Tang let's him know who's the boss of the tank once in a while but no harm done.

When the Blueface too close to the Majestic, the Majestic will give him a chase for about 1 second or six inches. There are a lot of rocks for the Blueface to hide in, so the chases are very short and far between.

My tank is up running and recently had to QT everyone from a ICh/velvet breakout.

I am 4 weeks into fallow with 2 or 4 more to go. Everyone is in QT and healthy.

As far as angels I currently have a French 7", annularis 3", Emperor 5", Queen 5".

I just checked out your gallery. Looks like you need to update your pictures.:D ;)

I would really like to see pictures of your 7" French Angel. Looks like he caught up and surpassed the Emperor Angel.

Thanks,
Raymond:)

I think your queen angel will eventually run everyone there! The gray are great but i would worry about ich with the emperator unless your running fish only i can treat the tank! good job!

I just got a new camera so I will see if I can get a pic of him in the QT.

It's not the original French. When I got another I went bigger thank all the rest of the angels in the tank and it worked great. No problems.

Maro1, very nice fish selection! I was going to have a queen, emperor and either a french or bluering, but I ended up with the gray. I know what you mean about QT. I hate it, mine have been in for 3 weeks now, I am waiting another 5 probably, not until may!! I want to make sure everything is ok in my 125g though.

BlueNwhite, go ahead and put up pics of your moorish idol, I'd love to see! I want to see tanks with multiple angels and other fish. I am interested in seeing what else can go with multiple aggressive angels. I was more curious if you idol got picked on rather then doing the bullying? I know they are docile fish, but I guess since he is the biggest, it works out. Maybe when the angels get bigger, then the story might change. My emperor bullies the gray the same way your majestic does with your blueface. It is just a quick chase, sometimes he doesn't even move, just intimidates him, the gray just gets out of his way.

joeytroy, someday I think my queen will run everyone. She will get as big as the gray, maybe a little bigger and is more aggressive. But she has a long long long time to go. I can't wait until they all color change though. Unfortunately, they grow slower and don't color change as fast in captivity, does that mean they'll live longer?haha! As far as the ick goes, that is why I am keeping my 125g fish free for 8 weeks, they say 6 weeks will kill the ick, but I am not taking any chances, as badly as I want to put them in the bigger tank, I won't. I have copper in the QT tank, I am about to stop that soon though, don't want to overdo it on them. You have 2 1000g tanks? Any pics?

BTW, we should change the topic of the thread to people with multiple angels, and other fish, put up some pics and describe your setup/how everything works, who gets long, who's boss etc! My gray has been home for a week and a half now, so I kinda figured out my first question. I just like seeing other peoples set ups and how everything works out etc.

Come on everyone, we gotta keep this thread going! I want to see some more pics and setups! I'm curious to know what else I should add to my current stock list. I am considering getting a vlamingi tang, a small one about 2" but he'll probably grow too fast for the angels, mainly the queen. I never see small purple tangs or naso less then 2", I just want to make sure whatever I get doesn't bother my angels. I know the queen will probably be dominant when she is older, but that will be a long time. She is very docile now, only chasing the damsels for fun.

damnpep,
heres a bump for you to keep this thread going for others to reply, i would like to see this one continue too

Update... MY FISH HAVE ICH!!!! I don't know how, but I noticed some white stuff on the queens fins, and then I saw white dots on the gray!!! What gives? They are in a QT tank with copper!!!!!!!! How could this be? What should the copper level be at? I did a 10g water change about 3-4 days ago and another 10g change yesterday. I am going to do another 10g water change today and check the water. What should copper levels be at in a QT with sick fish? This is driving me crazy! I hate ich and diseases! I have been thinking about getting out of the hobby for a while, and this just really pushes my decision! Please someone let me know what I am doing wrong so I don't just give up on this yet!

i had the same problem with a powder blue in a QT tank. he would repeatedly get ich on and off, copper or not. ill check one of those books at my house, i think itll have the limits for copper treatment in them. copper is weird like that tho, the levels have to be exact for results. too little and it wont be effective... too much and it can kill them

it could possibly be that youve got 3 angels in a 55 gallon tank and the lack of room is causing them stress. when i eventually moved my powder blue to a larger QT tank, the ick went away

I had the same problem with my majestic. I got ich twice in QT. Nothing bad though. I finally just said the heck with it and put it back in the tank after the last spots disaperard. I noticed a few on the angels a few days ago, but nothing out of hand. They are just gonna have to tuffen up, because none of the other fish have had spots. I think angels are just wimps, lol. Unless ich gets realy bad, you have nothing to worry about. It is like a common cold to them. But I bet the stress of all 3 big guys in a 12 inch wide tank is stressing them. Ive gotten to the point that im not buying any more fish. Corals are alot easier to care for, and they never get ich, haha. If a fish dies, im not replacing it. In all my years, ive never had this kinda problem with ick!! Most the time the fish will just pull through it, and ill never see it again. But my new tank has some super straind of ich that dosent die!! I did like you and took all the fish out for 5 weeks, and kept all the fish in copper. But the second I put a new fish in there it got ich, no matter how long it was in QT.... I dont have the room, or the money right now to be doing water changes everyday in a QT tank so Im not gonna keep the fish in there for 2-3 months!!! It dosnt take that long for ich to finsh its life cycle. And hypo only removes the ich, it dosnt kill them. The second you raise the SG it will spring back to life. Just hang in there and see what happens. It is not like all your fish died, they just got sick. The new gray probably brought some ich with it from the store, and the copper didnt kill all of it. Good luck bud, and keep us up to date!!

Michael

Well I did a copper check and it was barely noticeable. So I upped the copper and I came home from work and the gray is ich free same with the queen. My queen would do that as well when she was in the main tank. She would have ich one day, then nothing the next, or even later that night! I don't like hyposalinity, I don't have anything that can measure salinity all that precisely. I will just do another water change tomorrow and check the levels and copper. What should copper be at? That is what I really need to know. I really need to add these damn angels to my display tank. The wait is killing me and maybe them! Even though the QT tank is small, they are small too. My gray is the biggest by far and he is only 5" the emperor is 4" and queen 3". I will update everyone tomorrow, thanks for the replies.

dampep,
i wouldnt worry about it, IMO ich is always present in the tank no matter how careful you are and if your fishes are healthy and eating well they usually able to fight it off. my power brown tang always get ich, nothing bad just a few spots here and there and i dont even pay no mind to it as long as it eats well and looks fine ( breathing not laboring). i never QT them (too difficult to catch them out) what i do is put extra garlic in their food, raise the temp to 81 and turn on my uv for a couple of days and all spots are gone in a day or two. like scoutmaniak said, is just like a common cold, they just have to suck it up and fight it off. in your case , alittle part prob has to do with all those lg fishes in the 55gal. bottom line is, if the ich comes and goes that means your fishes ammune system is strong enough to fight it off. they should be fine once you get them into your display.

Yeah, I still have to QT them because whatever was in my tank before killed off my other fish I am assuming? When do you think it will be safe to put them back in? My display has been without fish since march 9th. I just hate seeing the fish with ick. Some days the queen was COVERED in ick, then a few days later would be ok. I guess I should get a new bulb for my UV sterilizer and hook it up. I just don't want to take out too much bad stuff in my tank, just have to limit the use. The fish seem to be ok now, since I upped the copper. Does anyone know the copper level for QT tanks?

Ok, I am flipping the F out and getting really P*ssed off! Out of no where, my fish got ick BAD! Today they were fine. Later tonight, they all just exploded with ick. It started on their fins and worked there way to the body. My queen is swimming around with her left fin out, I am guessing because of the ick. She is also every once in a while rubbing against some pvc pieces. I am so sick of ick and fish getting sick! I am about to just call it quits on fish for now. After adding copper, I did another check and it still seems non existant! So I added more. I am using seacure copper treatment, supposed to be one drop per gallon for a .15 ppm copper level. I added in 55 drops, then about 15 more when the test showed nothing. Then about 15 more just now. I am about to do another water change, add in a bit more copper, I guess almost 2 drops of copper per gallon? I've done a little over 20g worth of water change in the past 5 days. This is driving me crazy!!!!!!! I don't want my fish dying!!!

Also, does a skimmer take out copper? I don't think so, but you never know. My copper level is low, I just checked it after adding more, I didn't really let it cycle throughly but it's reading between .5-1. I thought it should be around .15ish? I just don't want to over dose and make them worse or even kill them. My emperor doesn't seem to be be chasing the gray as much any more, don't know if that is because of the ick or they are getting used to each other. This really sucks!

I used copper safe, and it called for one teaspoon per 4 gallons. Copper wont kill the parisites on the fish, just the free swimming ones. But you shouldnt have any out break like you got... I would do another copper test, and see what it is. Are you using carbon?? I think carbon will pull copper out of the water, but im not 100% sure. I wish you the best of luck!!! I know what your going through and it is a pain in the ***!! And large angels are not cheap fish either, so that just makes is worse...

Michael

As much of a pain as it might be, a freshwater and/or formalin dip may be in order. Is your copper test kit fairly new? I use Mardel Coppersafe with great success. Also, you may consider investing in a UV sterilizer - a great bit of insurance IMHO.

I used to use mardel, but it didn't do that much. This seacure treats like 2,000 gallons or something. The test kit is probably about 6 months old. I am going to do a water change tomorrow before work and add 2 drops per gallon, check copper levels. I didn't want to do a change now and freak them out more and cause more stress/ick. I do have a UV sterilizer, but it flickers on and off, I hope it's the bulb that is the problem, not the ballast. I have to get a new bulb and see, I am just real short on cash right now. Tough going to school and with as many bills I have, I'm surprised my aquarium has grown into this! Well hopefully tomorrow they will look better. I just don't like how they have ick, they still eat like pigs though. Sometimes they'll twitch or scrape up against something. Btw, I don't use carbon in the QT tank, it will remove copper, I just have filter pads in there. I guess I will just see how everything is tomorrow. Thanks for the help, keep you guys updated.
