People with multiple angels please help!

What size is your emperor Dave? I Think that has a lot to do with the fighting. My fish are all small, so there is little fighting, actually none. The gray is a little bigger, so we'll see. If I need to separate them, I can and wait until I get a bigger tank.
Tomorrow the gray angel is coming home, thanks to aquajamieb! He is a great stand up guy, thanks to him, I wouldn't be able to get him! So I will let everyone know how things turn out. Does anyone have any experience with gray angels though? I'd love to hear from people with gray angels and other angels in the same tank, preferably queen or emperor? Thanks!

The Emp is about 4 1/2", a sub-adult. The Maj is about 3" and shows full adult colouration...

Well today seemed to be a better day. At feeding time, everyone goes for the same pieces etc and there is no fighting. They don't seem to care, just a first come first serve basis. I would think they would fight then, but I guess not, I'm sure not complaining! The emperor I guess has established boss, but isn't aggressive. I guess this worked out for the best. Like you said reefmvp, it's better to have only one boss, not two constantly fighting.
There is no blood at all draw, no wounds, not even close. I don't think the emperor has even touched the gray, just a little chase then give up once the gray leaves his space. It's weird though because the emperor and queen are best buds, they get along fine. Maybe I should get a buddy for the gray so he isn't left out, haha just kidding! I still don't like how the emperor chases him though.

Michael,
The majestic is a docile angel, not very that aggressive. So I would put in another similar. French could be a possibility, they are similar to grays and mine is a wuss! One fish that comes to mind is a regal angel. Hard to keep, could be shy, but show stopping colors and extremely docile, maybe even a little too much.

Dave, my emperor is the same way. He chases the gray like it's his job! It is very annoying, but I guess no harm is done. Once you upgrade, I doubt they will mess with each other, except maybe at feeding time.

I am really getting annoyed with my emperor. He cruises around the tank, so he's constantly running into the gray and constantly chasing him! He does get close, I don't think he is biting the gray though. I don't see any torn fins on the gray. Whenever the emperor comes around, the gray prepares, looks to run away, he knows who's boss. Should I just continue to let it go or put up a dividing wall and block out the emperor? I could remove him and put him in another tank, as a time out. I am definitely putting the emperor in last in my display tank. I have about 6 more weeks to wait. Think 8 weeks will be enough to kill everything off in my tank? I took them out march 9th.

i think alot of the tension is due in part that they are in a 55gal, once you have them back in your 125 it would be fine. i wouldnt worry about

I know they gray is bigger as a full adult, but he is twice the size of the emperor now and the emp still bosses him around! How long do you think I have to wait to add the fish? I heard 6 weeks to let ick starve, I think it might also have been marine velvet. So I was going to wait 8 weeks. It has already been two. Also how long do you guys copper for and at what levels? The bottle just said a drop a gal for .15 ppm I believe, so I just go by that.

I know the 125 will be a lot better. I will have more rock and hiding places as well. The 55 sucks! It's so narrow and short! I really want to upgrade but I can't see getting a 210 or 220. it is the same length, just 6 inches wider and 6-8 inches taller, does that really make that big of a difference? I'd rather get a longer tank. I am really getting annoyed with this emperor, I hate it when he chases the gray. The gray is constantly on the lookout for the emperor, I feel it's stressing him out, I know it's stressing me out!! I hope the gray and I can wait it out. The emperor is definitely going in last, queen first, then gray in a few hours, then the emperor a few days later. I was considering getting a school of damsels for them to chase. Probably yellow tails? I already have two, get like 5-7 off them?

damnpep i wouldnt worry about if is only chasing, is no big deal if by now no blood is drawn they will be ok, like i said before is just elbow space they need and your 125 will provide them with it when you have it ready, as far as getting a few damsels, i dont think it will work, is not a fish to fish thing is a angel to angel thing.

oh one more thing damnpep, also i dont think you should get more damsels now, your bio load and space is already crowded enough in you 55 qt, if you really stress over this, then you should divide the tank with eggcrate til ur 125 is ready but IMO i dont think is necessary.

I was planning on getting more damsels, QTing them in a 20L and adding them in right before I add the angels. Nothing else is going in that 55, I know it is maxed! I will just wait and see how each day goes, hopefully things get better. If not, I will eggcrate the emperor to one side. I may set up the 20L for another clown, I don't know what other fish I could get, small fish, don't want to overload. I will definitely get another ocellaris clown. Later on when my angels get bigger and I upgrade, I will get some tangs, they are just too aggressive and fear they would kill my queen since she is small. Guess just maybe get another clown and maybe take the damsels out of the 55 and put them in the 20L QT tank.

I plan on adding a lot of live rock to my 125g to help biological filtration. I have almost 100lbs or so in there now. I am going to get more, I just don't want to over crowd the display, I want the angels to be able to swim around a lot. I was going to fill up my fuge with live rock as well. I was considering getting reef bones (actually petrified coral) for my base rock in the display. Anyone have any thoughts on this? How long does it take for reef bones to become live rock and help with the biological filtration?

Also anyone's input on copper too. How much to put in and for how long? How long do I need to QT my fish and my display? I read 6 weeks, but want to play it safe, 8 weeks enough? I know copper can hurt fish overtime, so how strong and how long should I expose them? My queen and the damsels were the only ones in the 125g, and the queen seems 100% clean. Thanks.

Forgot one thing. I know my QT tank is overly stocked, so what should I be looking out for as far as water parameters? Ammonia? I can do tests every other day, I just wanted to know what I should test for mainly, what my biggest concern is. I have been noticing my gray doing the shakes. He kind of shakes his head rapidly, only for a second, I don't know if he sneezed or what! But he periodically shakes he head/body, weird? Any clue?

All right. I am calling reefmvp out on some pics since DamnPepShrimp isn't ready yet.

So let's see some pics of your angels reefmvp!:p

Thanks,
Raymond:)

I am getting some eggcrate today, I can't take the emperor chasing the gray every time they get close. He is starting to get a little to close, might even be giving him a little nip, but I don't see any torn fins or sores on the gray. He is probably just getting chased, but it drives me crazy! Hopefully the emperor will calm down in time out?

Also anyones input on copper and reef bones rock?

BlueNwhite, how about some pics or vids of your setup? You have 4 large angels in there! How do they all get along? Is the emperor the boss? More details please!

you can give the emp to me, lol. i know what your going through. I just got a new angel yesterday. I put a coral beauty in with a pair of flames and a majestic. the large male flame chases the CB, but not damage. As long as the other angel doesnt turn and fight you should be good. I would love to see some pic of all your angels!!

I am working on getting pics of them. My brother doesn't know how to use his vid cam to put it online and my roommate still needs a charger! Do you have any pics of your angels? I didn't know you could get a mated pair of flame angels? How did you do that? I'd love to get a pair!
When eating time comes, my gray is the king, the emperor doesn't stand a chance against the grays size. If the gray only knew the emperor chases him only because he lets him! The gray did snap today and was swimming all over the tank, the emperor cowered in the corner, haha.

lol, your grey just needed to settle in. On the flames I just got one small, and one large. They did all the rest, lol. It is like pairing up clownfish, but the large one will be the male. Ill try to get some pics, fish are so hard to get pics of!!

Michael

That is awesome! I never new you could have a pair of flames! They get along fine? Do you think they will breed? I know some pygmy's will. How are the flames with the majestic? How big is the majestic? My emperor still chases the gray, but feeding time is a different story. If the gray gets in his hyper active moods, like when he hasn't seen me for a while and I come home, or it's feeding time, he goes nuts and the emperor just backs away. Then it's back to the normal emperor chasing the gray out of his way.
I know what you mean about taking pictures with these fish, they never sit still! I put in an algae sheet, and when they go to pick at it, that's when I take my picture. Worked ok for me, still not that great but it was on a camera phone. Wish I could post up pics, but my phone is retard and won't let me.

Now I am trying to figure out what tangs to add, not for awhile obviously. I love to just do wishful thinking and plan ahead. I want 3 tangs, one from each family.
Zebrasoma (purple, yellow,salfin etc)
Acanthurus (powder brown, powder blue, naso, achilles)
Another tang in the acanthurus family but different (sohal, clown, orange shoulder, or a vlamingi (naso family) tang)

Basically 3 different shapes, so there might not be as much fighting. What do you guys recommend? I was thinking purple for the color, and I am torn with the powder brown, naso, blonde naso, or achilles. I would love an achilles but hear they die in captivity? A sohal or clown tang would be too aggressive, how are vlamingi tangs? Orange shoulder tang is unique, but probably too small and weak in an aggressive tank. I will have to wait until my queen is bigger, because I don't want the tangs trying to boss her around and end up killing her, seen it happen to a king angel from a powder blue!
Also, what other fish would you guys add in the long run? I am looking to upgrade to a min 240, maybe 265, I just don't want to pay thousands for a custom tank. Would 3 tangs and 3 angels be maxed out? I was considering a flame angel, maybe a pair now that scout mentioned it! I have a couple damsels that would go in of course. I would go 240 for the extra length, but is a 265 better for the extra height? Which would you prefer?

lol, your like me. I want everything!!! The flames did some chasing at first, mainly by the large male, but NO fighting. The smaller one would just turn into a "U" and submit to the male, then they were cool. Ive read that the male will have pointed anal and dorsal fins, with bolder lines. Were the female will have flat to rounded anal and dorsal fins, with lighter colors and thinner bars. The flames and coral beauty get along good also. The large flame runs the show with the dwarf angels. The majestic is around 4-4 1/2 inches and runs the angel show, lol. They all get along, and never challenge the majestic. Im hopping to get either a regal, or a bi-color angel as my last ones. I dont buy into the whole, one angel per tank thing either. I would love to get an emperor angel, but they get to large. They have always been my favorite!!! Oh well some day ill try to get a bigger tank, lol.

Yeah, I want a little bit of everything! Is this all in your 100g tank? You majestic should out grow that on its own. So your going to need to upgrade anyway, then you can get an emperor! What other fish are in your tank? I am very interested in trying a pair of flame angels, that would be really cool! So you can tell them apart besides size differene? I really need a bigger tank, I want to get some tangs badly and who knows what else.
