Peppermint shrimp eating my acans...HELP!!!

yep -i concur - i got my first acan and i watched my peppermint shrimp eat two of the polyps. I have a gonoporia that is has not been doing well for a while now, and I bet the peppermint shrimp is helping it die. I am going shrimping today!! Thank you reef central for confirming what I suspected!
Google the "coke bottle shrimp trap" ... works wonders and good luck. this trick saved a few hundred in acans from a five dollar pep shrimp.

Had a few peppermint shrimp long ago and they picked on the yumas I had at the time. They are very fast and coke bottle caught one. Finally got a fox face and that take care of getting rid of the shrimp from the tank.

I have purchase a few peppermint since than but always put them in a QT to use them to clean rock that have issue. Monitor what they will touch. Never put them in the main tank again.

Even CONFIRMED Peppermint will eat LPS. I had 2 our of 4 in my new 55 that trashed a frogspawn and a blasto. Ill never do it again. The other two never touched them though. All critters have different tastes I say not worth the risk. Get them into your fuge or another tank and the LPS may recover mine did

I had this problem with my pepermint shrimp as well. Bought a gorgeous orange plate coral after my previous one died (not so mysteriously, as it were). The day after I put I. In my sand bed I noticed that it's feeding tentacles were receded, which was different than a the LFS (this isn't a Long tentacled plate either). Then I saw that shrimp ninja down whenever the tentacles showed up. I tossed in an acryllic fish breeding box and quarantined the shrimp asap. Sold it the next day.

Old thread...but I too watched watched 4 peppermints destroy 2 stylophoras, pink and green, down to the skeleton. They were kind enough to leave my aiptasia alone:headwally: Added spotted hawkfish:uzi: no mo shrimp.

Mine don't eat live, healthy aiptasia. I got two dozen in an attempt to make sure at least some would. I've never seen mine pick at corals, but I have seen them eat dusters.
