is it possible that my peppermint shimp would kill my mandarin? they do that? the body was found upside down in the area they call home, it body far as i could tell was in perfect condition cept one of the fins looked like it had been nibbled on. my water conditions are in perfect i had the mand. for about a week and it was swimming around fine last night and bam this morning its upsidedown in the sand next to the peppermint shimp and there picking at a fin.

my starfish's remains and later consumtion was found in the peppermint shimps home to tis why im getting concerned. only thing in the tank besides them is a cleaner shrimp a nemo and a regal blue. if anyone thinks they are capable of that wanna get them out before they go after my very expensive regal blue:/

recommendations for removing them if needed?:P

No, they didn't. Not unless they're camel shrimp, a peppermint lookalike. Google both camel and peppermint on the web until you know the difference.

You don't give anything about tank size, age, or params: those are big unanswereds. Mandarins who are too thin when purchased may be unable to eat, and will go on starving to death in the midst of pods. Thinness is hard to judge by those who don't know the species.
All shrimp will scavenge the dead.

But be very sure which breed of shrimp you've got. The most obvious difference is the degree of bend in the back.

not harlequin shrimp.

i have had pepermint shrimp bite me.. i had about 7-10 pepermints attack my arm and bite because they had not been fed for days. i guess nowdays im mildly afraid of shrimp. i was very nervous when i let my new cleaner shrimp clean my fingers.

i also suspect your mandarin died then the shrimp came over to pick on the dead fish.

cleaner shrimp are awesome ... they do exactly what the name says .. clean.

i keep 5 of them in my tank ... they are ALLLLL over @ night, and during the day & night they both clean the fish very well .. its the 'car wash'
