Can you mix a black percula clown with a regular percula clown?

Also do the black one's loose their color? because I've seen some at the LFS that aren't as black as the other ones and are kind of orange/black

Whats the difference between a black ocellaris and a Onyx Percs?

So I can mix black ocellaris with regular ones?

Do you mean besides being different species?

But, you can mix different color morphs of the same species, just would have the same issues as pairing up the same color of the same species.

Okay the dif between Black Ocellaris var. and Onyx Percula is the coloration let alone the species.Black Ocellaris var. are fully black and sometimes very little yellow/orange on the nose.Onyx Percula are Black but have orange on the head, tail, fins, and some of the lower body area.

NO problem. And please dont say these are stupid questions because they are'nt.We cant all become reef experts and clown experts over night. We learn something new every day and I myself learn new things every day!I will admit I still have ALOT of room to learn about the reefing hobby and the way other do things too.So dont feel bad!

Thanks,

A tip to keep in mind is only one pair of the same species clowns per tank (regardles of color morph). If you add any more they will eventually fight and kill eachother unless you have a big tank (150g or more)

Good luck

Yea beside being a different specie... Im new to clowns so sorry for the stupid questions.

Not at all, lots of folks are confused about the two species. It doesn't help that Ocellaris are often times refered to as "false Percula".... always hated that. I guess we should start referring to Percula clowns as "false Ocellaris". Also clowns referred to as "black Percula" are actually black and white Ocellaris. The Onyx clown is a Percula and I believe it has the most black on it of any Percula, it also has some orange which gives it a cool tri-colored look. I am surprised anyone ever gets it right with all the confusion.

You might first want to figure out what fish you are really buying. I personally would not mix a true perc with a Black and White Ocellaris. They get pretty aggressive.True Percs are not as aggressive.
