I picked up a percula clown from someone shutting down their tank. How can I tell whether it is a true percula or a false percula?

True pers have more black on them than the false percs

Here's a true perc

outstanding. i have a true percula then. now, i just need to check out the LFS to see if theirs are true perculas and to make sure they are small enough to not be sexually developed.

The black coloration is more dependent on the individual fish{where it was collected, it's host anemone, if it was captive bred, etc.}; the only way to really tell the difference is the number of dorsal spines. The percula clown normally has 10 dorsal spines and the spiny part of the dorsal fin is shorter.

Although PoukieBear was right in saying that percula's can have more black on their body.
