Percula health decline! Help!

I've had a fairly decent sized clown for almost a year now, and recently his health seems to be declining rapidly. It had always done very well since it's purchase and was actually one of the more dominant fish. Over the last week, he has been very pale, frayed fins, and is being chased by fish it normally would have chased. Anyone have any suggestions? He's a personal favorite, and I would hate to see it die.

What type of fish do you have with it? Have you changed anything ? Added fish, change rockwork, feeding schedule? Where did you get it and how old is it?

Have you added another clown or angel fish? Any other fish? Does the clown look to be breathing heavily, gaped mouth or flared gill plates? Any loss of slime coat or white stringy or powdery looking spots anywhere?

So you don't have to wait, if the answer to the symptoms above is yes, especially the labored breathing and loss of slime coat your clown has brook (clownfish and angel disease). To survive it would need to be treated with formalin in a QT tank.

I would get him into another tank or sump if you have one. If not maybe wall off part of the tank with egg crate. Give him some shelter, extra food, and a little less light & flow.

Good luck
