Percula?

So I just got 2 percula from live aquaria but they are very different looking and
the darker one is relentlessly chasing the lighter one and biting it. What are the chances they packed me an ocelaris by mistake?

The left one is for sure a percula (looks like it could be a nice onyx after coloring up).
Of the other one I would need to see a better to be sure but it also looks like a percula as it has nearly no black (typical for juvenile "regular" percula) and a rather percula shaped middle band.

The fighting might be because they seem to be of nearly equal size.

Are these wild or tank raised?

They are what liveaquaria had listed as a true percula for $25...I think it said singapore in the description so, wild? I must have taken 30 pics and that's the best I got!

They are both percula. The one that's completely orange could be tank raised. Better pics would help.

I agree, you have 2 percs. The more orange one should color up just fine with good quality foods.

The ones that don't have the "onyx" gene usually take a long time to get their black and full orange. For a while they can actually look like a faded out ocellaris without any black. Ocellaris of the same size may have significantly more black but their orange is usually a bit more to the red.

Percula usually color up when they get close to maturity.

I think they're both percs. Since they are wild, color difference is likely due to anemone species with which they were associated in the wild. The onyx-ish clown was likely collected from a gigantea and the more orange fish was likely collected from a mag.

I don't think less black automatically means they come from a magifica. Also, having them in a gigantean does by no means guarantee that develop more or even maintain their black.
I got these two because they had a lot of black and was hoping for it to become even more over time and when kept in a gigantean:

Also, as I stated before, percula are often very late developers and get their full color much later than ocellaris. That's one of the reasons ocellaris are still more popular with stores and breeders than percula - you simply can sell them sooner.

Thanks for the replies, they're getting along much better now for whatever reason .....actually reversed dominance from the first day.
