"Perfect" Clowns

I'm looking to buy some clowns, which at some point in the future I'd like to breed. What features should I be looking for in the potential parents? I've heard an under-bite is undesirable, but they all look like they have under-bites to me! :lmao:

Does anyone have any good pictures of "right" and "wrong" clownfish? I want to make sure I start with the very best stock I can.

Thanks!

Part of it is up to you and what you find visually appealing. Aside form that you want to avoid any obvious and mojor deformities, like an extremely pronounced underbite, fin problems, etc. As far as perfection goes, it's really in the eye of the beholder, to a certain extent.

So you wanna be a breeder...? Two options IMO..

1. Get a WC pair with a known origin
2. Get creative and with a designer pair and see if you can come up with a new variant.

Ahhh I see! So it's a pronounced underbite! That makes way more sense! I mean, clownfish aren't exactly the smiley type are they? :)

I'm thinking of trying my luck with an Onyx Perc and B&W Occy... seeing if I can create some of my own Photons. Of course, that's if I can get a couple to like each other. I just want to make sure that after all that effort I haven't started out with "bad" stock.

Check with your LFS to see if they carry the free magazine called "Reefhobbyist". The one that's out now (second quarter 2011 / volume 5) has an article about inbreeding and deformities. You may find it helpful.

Never heard of photon clowns until now. Looked them up and they look sweet! I want to try and get a regular ocellaris and a black and white ocellaris to get my own mocha clowns. Then it would be cool to mix them with photons, that would be interesting...
