Permanent Quarantine Biowheel

I've set up a 10 gallon QT in my fish room. It has an open top, other than a lid I made from eggcrate. I have a bio wheel HOB filter just for QT purposes. Should I leave the covers off the filter for added gas exchange? Or should I leave them on to prevent salt spray?

Thanks!

Haha thx guys. I already can't wait to RE-do my sump, because of design the salt creep is not fun.

I was planning to add ammonia and cycle the QT. Had a thought, can I just run the HOB on my current sump and seed the bio wheel that way? If so, how long would that take?
